She ran a comb through her hair and did her best to pinch a little color back into her cheeks. After giving herself one last look-see in the lavatory mirror, she returned to the front area of the nightclub in time to hear a knock on the front door. Pulling aside the bolt, she unlocked and opened it to find the detective standing on the other side. “Good evening, Miss…Rose. May I come in, please?” She stepped aside and gestured for him to enter. He walked in, removing his hat as he did. “Is this going to take long?” she inquired. He started to reply, but judging by the expression on his face, she got the feeling she’d be better off if she was sitting down. “Wait. Let’s go take a seat. I got a feeling I’m not going to like what I’m about to hear.” She led him over to the nearest table. H
