Of course, she’d remembered him. She just didn’t want to admit it at the time. Rose paused brushing her hair as she prepared for bed. The memory of that tragic time would never leave her. Portions of it would eventually fade into obscurity. Some already had. She knew and accepted it. But there were points of light which would never dull or be forgotten. And the young, fresh-faced policeman with his honest concern and sincere wish to help her was one of them. She remembered how she’d clung to his uniform and cried as he led her out of the study where she’d found her father’s body. She remembered him fetching her a blanket from the trunk of his squad car and throwing it around her shoulders as her body quaked uncontrollably.
