CHAPTER 2

383 Words
Emily had always been a bit of a workaholic, but as she sat on the bench next to Alex on the boardwalk, watching the sunset over the ocean, she couldn't remember the last time she had felt so carefree. They had spent the afternoon exploring the town, discovering hidden gems like a cozy bookstore and a local ice cream shop with flavors like salted caramel and lavender. As they walked along the boardwalk, Emily felt herself letting go of all her worries and just enjoying the moment. "So, tell me more about your art," Emily said, taking a bite of her ice cream cone. Alex smiled. "I mostly do street art - you know, graffiti, murals, that kind of thing. It's not exactly legal, but it's a way to get my message out there. I want to inspire people to see the beauty in unexpected places." Emily was intrigued. She had never met someone quite like Alex before, someone who was so passionate about his art and so unapologetically himself. As they continued talking, she found herself opening up to him in a way she hadn't done with anyone in a long time. The night air was cool, and Emily pulled her sweater tighter around her as they walked. They stopped at a carnival game, where Alex tried to win her a stuffed animal but ended up knocking over a tower of cans instead. They both laughed as the carnival barker teased him good-naturedly. As they walked back to Emily's hotel, they realized that they had lost track of time and that it was nearly midnight. "I should probably get going," Emily said reluctantly. "I had a great time tonight," Alex said, looking at her with a hint of something in his eyes that Emily couldn't quite decipher. "Me too," she replied, feeling a sudden rush of nerves. They said goodnight, and Emily walked up the steps to her hotel, feeling both exhilarated and a little sad that the evening had come to an end. She knew that she had only just met Alex, but something about him had ignited a spark inside her that she couldn't ignore. As she drifted off to sleep that night, she couldn't wait to see what the rest of her time in Ocean View had in store.
