Over the next few months, Emily and Alex tried to start a family. They visited doctors and tried various treatments, but nothing seemed to work.
Emily began to feel discouraged, wondering if they would ever be able to have a child. Alex tried to reassure her, telling her that they would find a way, but Emily couldn't help feeling like she was letting him down.
One day, Emily was walking along the boardwalk, lost in thought. She couldn't shake the feeling of sadness that seemed to be hanging over her.
As she approached the spot where she had first met Alex, she saw a woman sitting on a bench, crying. Emily hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do, but then she approached the woman and sat down next to her.
"Are you okay?" Emily asked gently.
The woman looked up, surprised. "I'm fine, thank you," she said, wiping away her tears.
Emily could see that she was lying, and she felt a pang of empathy.
"I'm Emily," she said, holding out her hand.
The woman took it. "I'm Sarah," she said, smiling weakly.
They talked for a while, and Emily learned that Sarah had just gone through a difficult break-up. Emily found herself sharing her own struggles with Sarah, telling her about her and Alex's infertility struggles.
To her surprise, Sarah opened up about her own fertility struggles, and they commiserated over the unfairness of it all.
As they said goodbye, Emily felt a sense of peace. Talking to Sarah had reminded her that she wasn't alone in her struggles, and that sometimes the best thing to do was to open up to others.
When Emily returned home, she told Alex about her encounter with Sarah. They talked about how hard it was to go through something like infertility, but how important it was to support each other.
