Amaka finally spoke up, her voice firm. "I'll call you later, Yemi." She hung up the phone and turned to her friends.
"What did he want?" Chris asked, curiosity etched on his face.
Amaka sighed. "He wants to meet up again."
Iyiola's eyes narrowed. "You're not going, are you?"
Amaka hesitated, but her friends' concerned expressions helped her make up her mind. "No, I'm not going."
Enoch nodded in agreement. "Good decision. You don't need to get involved with someone who's already asked out Iyiola."
The friends nodded in unison and refocused on their studies. However, the peace was short-lived, as Yemi called again.
Amaka answered, her tone polite but firm. "Yemi, I'm busy. I really can't afford to leave what I'm doing."
Yemi's voice sounded pained, but he tried to hide it. "Okay, no worries. Goodbye, Amaka."
As Amaka hung up the phone, her friends looked at her with concern. "You did the right thing," Chris reassured her.
Amaka smiled, feeling a sense of relief. "Thanks, guys. Let's focus on our studies."
And with that, the friends dove back into their books, determined to ace their Mid-semester Examination.
As the friends parted ways after their intense study session, Amaka couldn't shake off thoughts of Yemi. She had been drawn to him since he asked for her number, but his past attempt to ask out Iyiola had complicated things. Back in her room, she confided in Iyiola, seeking her advice.
"Iyiola, I know Yemi asked you out, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't give him a chance," Amaka said, her voice laced with curiosity. She paced around the room, her eyes fixed on Iyiola.
Iyiola leaned against her bed, watching Amaka with a thoughtful expression. "I never said you shouldn't," she replied. "I just mentioned that he tried to ask me out too, but I already have a boyfriend."
Amaka stopped pacing and turned to Iyiola. "So, what do you think I should do?" she asked, her eyes searching for guidance.
Iyiola's expression turned thoughtful. "If you're sure you like him and have gotten to know him a bit, then go for it," she said. "But be cautious, Amaka. Remember what happened with me."
Their conversation flowed effortlessly until the lights faded, and they decided to call it a night.
The next few days passed in a blur as the friends intensified their studying for the Mid-semester Examination. They spent long hours poring over their notes, practicing problems, and attending review sessions.
Finally, the day of the test arrived. The four friends gathered at school early, each heading to their respective departments. The atmosphere was tense, with students murmuring last-minute notes and sipping coffee.
As Iyiola walked into the examination hall, a guy approached her, asking seemingly innocuous questions. "Hey, Iyiola, can I ask you something?" he said, his tone friendly.
Iyiola turned to him, polite. "Sure, what's up?"
The guy leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I was just wondering if you could help me with this question. I'm really stuck."
Iyiola's eyes narrowed, sensing something off. But she decided to help him anyway, explaining the concept in a low tone.
Unbeknownst to Iyiola, the guy was trying to implicate her, making it seem like she was cheating. He had been instructed by someone to sabotage Iyiola's exam, but Iyiola's quick thinking and caution had foiled his plan.
After the examination, the friends reconvened at the Relaxation center, exhausted but relieved. Chris arrived first, wiping down a seat with a handkerchief.
Just then, Roseline appeared behind him. "Hi Chris."
Chris spun around, startled. "Oh! Hi, Roseline. How are you?" He flashed a warm smile, but Roseline's expression remained solemn.
"What happened the other day really hurt me," Roseline said, her voice tinged with sadness. "I waited for you at the Library for over two hours, and you didn't show up."
Chris's eyes widened, apologetic. "Roseline, I'm so sorry. I completely forgot..." He trailed off, realizing he had made a mistake.
Roseline's eyes searched his face, seeking sincerity. "You forgot? Or you just didn't care?" Her tone was laced with hurt.
Chris took a deep breath, knowing he had to make things right. "Roseline, I care. I really do. It was just a mistake, and I promise it won't happen again."
Roseline's expression softened, and she nodded slowly. "Okay, Chris. I forgive you. But next time, please remember."
Chris smiled, relieved. "I will, Roseline. I promise."
As they talked, the other friends arrived, curious about the conversation. But Chris and Roseline had already cleared the air, and the atmosphere remained relaxed.
The friends chatted and laughed, discussing their exam experiences and sharing stories. But Amaka's mind kept drifting back to Yemi, wondering what he was up to and whether she would see him again soon.
Little did she know, Yemi was thinking about her too, his mind consumed by thoughts of their next meeting.
As the friends continued to chat and laugh, Amaka's phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming text message. She glanced at the screen, her heart skipping a beat as she saw Yemi's name.
"Hey, Amaka. How was your exam?" Yemi's message read.
Amaka's fingers hovered over the keyboard as she debated how to respond. She didn't want to seem too eager, but she couldn't deny the excitement she felt at hearing from Yemi again.
"Hey, Yemi. My exam was okay, thanks. How about you?" Amaka replied, trying to sound casual.
Yemi responded quickly, and they began to chat back and forth, exchanging stories and jokes. Amaka found herself smiling and laughing, feeling a connection with Yemi that she couldn't ignore.
Meanwhile, Chris and Roseline were getting cozy, sitting together on a couch and sharing a plate of snacks. Enoch and Iyiola were engaged in a heated debate about the latest football match, their voices rising and falling as they argued.
As the evening wore on, the friends decided to call it a night, saying their goodbyes and promising to meet up again soon. Amaka walked back to her hostel, her mind still buzzing with thoughts of Yemi and their conversation.
As she drifted off to sleep, Amaka couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to change. She didn't know what the future held, but she was excited to find out.
The next morning, Amaka woke up to a surprise text message from Yemi. "Hey, Amaka. Want to grab lunch together today?"
Amaka's heart skipped a beat as she read the message. She had been hoping to see Yemi again, and now it seemed like that was about to happen.
Chris and Roseline sat side by side in the Library, surrounded by stacks of books and the quiet murmur of other students studying. They were both engrossed in their books, occasionally asking each other questions or pointing out important notes.
As they studied, Chris couldn't help but steal glances at Roseline. He admired the way she bit her lip when she was concentrating, the way her eyes sparkled when she understood a difficult concept. He felt a flutter in his chest, and he knew he had to take a chance.
After a few hours of studying, Chris closed his book and turned to Roseline. "I want to ask you something," he said boldly, his heart racing with anticipation.
Roseline looked up from her book, her eyes curious. "What's that, Chris?" she asked, her voice soft.
Chris took a deep breath and reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair behind Roseline's ear. "Roseline, from the moment I met you, I knew there was something special about you," he said, his voice sincere. "I love the way you make me laugh, the way you always know how to make me feel better when I'm down. I was wondering... not only will you go out with me, but will you be my girlfriend?"
Roseline's eyes widened, and she looked taken aback. But then, a slow smile spread across her face, and she nodded eagerly. "Yes, Chris, I'd love to," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Chris's heart soared as he grinned, feeling elated. He leaned in, his lips brushing against Roseline's in a soft, gentle kiss. The Library around them melted away, leaving only the two of them, lost in the magic of their first kiss.
As they pulled away, Roseline's eyes sparkled with happiness. "I've been waiting for you to ask me out for so long," she said, her voice filled with emotion.
Chris chuckled, feeling relieved and joyful. "I'm glad I finally did," he said, taking her hand in his. "I promise to make it worth the wait.”
As they walked out, Roseline couldn't shake off the feelings that she and Chris had to be careful and maybe make their relationship on a low key. "Please, I want to make this relationship on a low key," she said, her voice laced with a hint of urgency.
Then Enoch was worried and confused. "Why!”
