CHAPTER 2 "Hello mom." George groused over the phone and yawned lightly. "Hey son. Janelle's in the hospital?" George's mother made a guess over the phone because of the tone her son sounded. "Yes mom, she passed out when we were going to bed. The doctor's stabilized her already and she's fine. But she's asleep now. It's late already so we'll just pass the night here in the hospital." He sighed tiredly. Sleep had eluded him. He just sat beside mirabelle's bed watching her sleep soundly. "Okay son, don't worry yourself too okay? she'll be alright." His mom said soothingly. "Yeah, thanks mom." He said and ran his fingers through his disheveled hair. He looked really tired with dark cycles around his eyes. "Bye son." The call got disconnected and George turned to look at his daughter. This was all her mother's fault. If only she wasn't greedy and self-centered but he was glad that Mirabelle is his child. Mirabelle's chest heaved up and down softly as she slept. A drip was fixed and nasal cannular oxygen was placed on her nose. "Please princess, be fine for me. I can't afford to loose you, you are all I have." He said softly, like he was gonna break down in tears. He took her hand and kissed the back of her palm. He removed a strand of her hair lying carelessly on her forehead. He got up and kissed her forehead affectionately. ................. "Mr George, ensure that she eats enough of fruits and veggies. And she shouldn't engage in anything stressful. She also shouldn't be exposed to cold, she should wear thick clothes and cardigans when going out in the cold. And most importantly make sure she drinks a lot of water. She was dehydrated that was why passed out. It could be severe next time if it happens. She needs enough rest." The doctor told George as he sat in his office. "I promise I'll do everything you've said doc." George replied sincerely. "Alright." ........... "Dad? Why do I keep passing out? I was fine earlier yesterday but then I passed out in the night. What exactly is wrong with me dad?" Mirabelle asked worriedly as they both got ready to leave the hospital. They were both in the car already. "Nothing's wrong with you princess, you're perfectly fine. You were just dehydrated, that's all." George smiled in an assuring manner. "Okay dad." She sighed tiredly and rested her head on the car's headrest. George ignited the car and drove away from the hospital premises. ............ "Wanna go out Mirabelle?" George asked his daughter. Mirabelle was sitting on her princess-like bed, operating her laptop. She looked so engrossed typing away on it. "No dad. I've got to do my Art's project. I'll be submitting it at school tomorrow. Maybe next weekend. Thanks dad." She rushed her words staring from her laptop to stare at her dad. "Sure." Her dad smiled and walked out of her room. ................. The next day, Mirabelle yawned and tossed on her bed as her alarm rang out. "Good morning Mirabelle, it's time to wake up." The alarm reminded her. She yawned and turned it off. "It's Monday morning again! Ha!" She breathed out tiredly. She sat on her bed and rubbed her sleeping eyes. She placed her palms together and said a short prayer before getting down from her bed. She walked to her bathroom and went to the sink. She turned on the faucet and splashed water on her face. She stared at her self in the mirror and smiled. Despite her disheveled hair, she still looked pretty. She took her toothbrush and applied toothpaste on it before putting it in her mouth. "Princess! Are you up already?" George shouted from outside her door. "Yes dad! I'm in the bathroom!" She yelled, so he could hear her. "Okay! I'll be in the kitchen making breakfast!" She heard her father's voice and before she could reply, she heard his retreating footsteps. "Best dad." She murmured with a smile to herself. After she was done brushing her teeth, she pulled off her nightwear and kept them in her hanger she keeps her clothes anytime she undresses in the bathroom. She filled her bathtub with warm water and placed some fragrance in it. She wore her shower cap and got inside the bathtub. She sighed softly as her body came in contact with the warm water. ........ George sighed as he placed the broccoli cheese on the plate. In another plate, he placed bacon, then eggs. He carried them to the dinning room. He had milk in a glass cup and placed it in a tea saucer and took it upstairs to mirabelle's room. He knocked lightly. "Come in dad." Mirabelle answered. She was knotting her uniform tie. She was already in her light blue long sleeve and white and blue stripe jacket. Her short dark blue skirt and her black socks and her black shoe. Her blue and white striped tie already laid neatly knotted on her neck. "Good morning dad." She smiled and stood on her toes to peck him. "Morning princess, I brought you milk." He smiled and kissed her cheeks. "Thank you dad. That was so thoughtful of you." She smiled cutely at her father. She took the glass of milk from him and drank it. "Ha! Refreshing!" She breathed out a light laugh. "Alright, breakfast is ready. I'll meet you in the dinning room." He said and walked out of her room. Mirabelle packed her hair in a ponytail and placed her hairpin by the side. She applied a pink lipgloss on her lips. She took her blue black backpack from her bag rack and walked out of her room. She got to the dinning room and met her breakfast already set. "Thank you dad! You're the best." She smiled at him. "Broccoli? But dad, I thought we talked about me not eating broccoli? I don't like, in fact, I hate it!" Mirabelle whined like a spoilt child. "Listen to me Mirabelle, you need to eat veggies okay? It's for your health okay?" George tried to pacify his daughter. "Do you wanna keep passing out all the time?" He asked. "No dad, I don't want to. I don't like veggies." She grumbled. "Come on, eat it even if it's a little. I'll get you anything you want I promise." He said softly. "Okay dad. I'll eat it only if you promise to take me to school and bring me back from school throughout this week. No excuses." She said with a pout. "I promise!" He raised his right hand up. She chuckled and started eating. ............... "Janelle!" Jessica screamed enthusiastically as she ran to meet her best friend who just alighted from her father's white Lamborghini car. "Jessica!" Mirabelle waved at her happily. Jessica got to where she was and they both engulfed in a tight hug like they haven't seen themselves for a long time. "Bye dad." "Bye sir." They both waved at Mr George. The two friends held hands together and walked inside the school compound. "Tell me, how was your weekend?" Jessica asked as they climbed the stairs to their classroom. "Well..." Mirabelle started while Jessica listened. ............ George got to his office and the employees greeted him from every corner. Though, he's the CEO of the reputable company, he still go to work and he goes early. He hates lateness and tardiness. He's a well known billionaire with a reputable background. He owns one of the biggest companies, an oil company and he's also a great philosopher. Not only that, he has a doctorate degree. "Good morning sir." His secretary, Anna greeted him politely with a bow. "Morning Miss Anna. How was your weekend?" He asked with a smile "It was fine sir. And yours?" She replied. "It was great." He replied. George got to his office and met everywhere in order and sparkly too. There was not even a spec of dust on his desk. "Where's Adams?" He asked, referring to his PA. "He went to get you a cup of coffee." Anna replied. "Oh!" He nodded his head. "I'll be in my office sir." Anna said politely. "Yeah, sure. I'll call you when I need you. Thanks." George replied and dismissed her. Few minutes later, Adams walked in with a hot cup of coffee in his hand. "Good morning sir." He greeted with a light bow. "Morning. How was your weekend?" He asked as Adams handed over the coffee to him. "It was fine sir. How's Mirabelle?" He asked. "She's fine." ............. "Hi George." George heard the familiar voice. He raised his head from his computer to stare at the person. His secretary didn't ring him to tell him that he had a visitor. He scrunched his face in disgust as he stared at the figure in front of him with a smirk. He looked really angry...he didn't think he'll see this face anytime soon. After all the things he had passed through. Seeing the figure made his mood to go sour. "What are you doing here?" He gritted, with his fist in a ball already. The figure grinned and walked closer to him. "I came to see an old acquittance." *
