The café was quiet.
Too quiet.
Dielle wiped the counter slowly, her mind far away from the soft music playing.
The bell rang.
She didn’t look up.
“I’m starting to think you wait for me,” he said.
She sighed. “Or maybe you just don’t know when to stop showing up.”
He sat down anyway.
Confident. Calm.
Dangerous.
“You’re distracted,” he added.
Dielle placed a drink in front of him.
“You talk too much.”
He smirked.
“And you hide too much.”
Her phone buzzed.
A message.
James: “The plan is moving. Raven’s boyfriend is our target. Stay focused.”
Dielle’s fingers tightened slightly.
The plan.
Not him.
Never him.
“You keep checking your phone,” the Mafia Boss said quietly.
“Work,” she replied.
“Liar.”
She looked at him this time.
“And you care too much.”
“I’m curious,” he corrected.
“No,” she said softly.
“You’re interested.”
Silence.
Heavy.
Dangerous.
Behind the Café – Moments Later
Dielle stepped outside, needing air.
She didn’t expect him to follow.
“You always run when things get real?” he asked.
She turned slowly.
“You always follow where you’re not wanted?”
He stepped closer.
“I go where I choose.”
Dielle crossed her arms.
“And what do you want?”
He looked at her like he was trying to solve something.
“You.”
That word lingered.
Too long.
Too serious.
Dielle laughed softly—but it wasn’t real.
“You don’t even know me.”
“I know enough,” he said.
“No,” she replied, voice lower now,
“You don’t know anything.”
The Truth Beneath
Her mind flashed back—
“Target: Raven’s boyfriend.”
Not him.
Never him.
He was just a path.
A distraction.
A complication.
“You’re thinking about someone else,” he said suddenly.
Dielle didn’t deny it.
“You’re not my mission,” she said.
That changed everything.
His expression darkened slightly.
“So I’m just… what?” he asked.
“A coincidence.”
He let out a quiet laugh.
Cold.
“I don’t like being used.”
Dielle stepped closer now.
Matching his energy.
“Then maybe you shouldn’t be so easy to get close to.”
Pause.
The tension between them snapped tight.
He leaned in.
Not touching her.
But close enough to matter.
“If I find out you’re lying to me…” he said quietly,
“I won’t be kind about it.”
Dielle’s eyes didn’t move.
“Then don’t find out.”
Instead of stepping back—
He smiled.
Slow.
Dangerous.
“You’re a problem,” he said.
“And you’re still here,” she replied.
Across the street
James watched everything.
Jaw tight.
“She’s forgetting the plan…” he muttered.
At home
Raven sat in silence, her younger sister gently patting her shoulder.
“You’ll be okay…” she whispered.
But Raven’s eyes weren’t soft anymore.
They were thinking.
Watching.
“Dielle knows something,” she said quietly.
"Should we investigate?"they both asked at the same time.
"I guess we should"they said.
Café
Back outside, the Mafia Boss finally turned to leave.
Then paused.
“You say I’m not your mission…” he said without looking back.
Dielle stayed silent.
He smirked slightly.
“Let’s see how long that lasts.”
