What You Don't Remember

Episode 7 The hallway hadn’t recovered from his presence. Neither had Dielle. But she stood there anyway—still, composed… at least on the outside. Behind her— James had heard everything. Every word. Every pause. Every tone. And he hated it. James “You’re not actually considering it… right?” His voice was calm. Too calm. Dielle didn’t turn immediately. “I’m considering keeping people alive,” she replied. That stung. Because he knew what she meant. Her sister. The case. The chaos. But still— His jaw tightened. “You don’t make deals with people like him.” Now she turned. “And you think we can stop him without one?” Silence. James looked away for a second. Then back at her. Sharp. “What is it about him?” That question landed differently. Dielle frowned. “What?” “You heard me.” His voice dropped slightly. “What is it about him that makes you hesitate?” Shift Dielle’s expression hardened. “I don’t hesitate.” James let out a quiet, humorless laugh. “Yeah,” he said, stepping closer, “you do.” His eyes locked onto hers. “And it’s never with anyone else.” That tension? It wasn’t just about the case anymore. Inside the Investigation Room Raven’s boyfriend sat calmly again. Like he’d been waiting. The officer stepped out— Leaving the door slightly open. A mistake. Or maybe— Not. Back in the Hallway Dielle crossed her arms. “You’re overthinking.” James shook his head slowly. “No,” he said. “I’m finally thinking clearly.” A beat. “You liked him.” Silence. Her breath hitched—barely noticeable. But he saw it. Of course he did. Flash of the Past A softer version of Dielle. Laughing. Him—not the Boss yet— standing too close. Brushing her hair back. The same way. Back to Now “That was a long time ago,” she said quickly. James’s expression darkened. “So it’s true.” “It doesn’t matter.” “It clearly does.” Inside the Room Raven’s boyfriend leaned forward slightly. Eyes flicking toward the door. Listening. Smiling. Back to them James ran a hand through his hair, frustrated now. “You didn’t think to mention that the guy we’re dealing with is someone you had feelings for?” “I didn’t think it was relevant.” “That’s the problem, Dielle!” he snapped. “It is relevant!” His voice dropped again—but now it was heavier. More personal. “You don’t see him the way you should.” Pause She looked at him. Really looked this time. And something clicked. “…this isn’t just about the case, is it?” That question hung between them. James didn’t answer immediately. Didn’t look away either. “…You always choose the wrong side,” he said quietly. That wasn’t an answer. But it said everything. Before She Could Respond— A voice cut through. Calm. Cold. Amused. “Wow…” They both turned. The Interrogation Room Door Open. Raven’s boyfriend stood there. Unbothered. Like he’d been invited. “How long were you listening?” James demanded. The boyfriend smiled slightly. “Long enough.” His eyes shifted to Dielle. Sharp. Knowing. Dangerous. “You really don’t remember… do you?” he said. Dielle’s stomach tightened. “Remember what?” He stepped closer. Ignoring James completely. Like he didn’t exist. “You,” he said softly, “were the reason he got in.” Silence. James frowned. “What is he talking about?” But Dielle— Dielle had gone still. Because something— Something was pulling at her memory. Raven’s boyfriend tilted his head. “You trusted him first,” he continued. “You defended him.” A step closer. “You vouched for him when no one else did.” Dielle shook her head slightly. “No…” But it didn’t sound certain. “He needed access,” the boyfriend said. “And you…” A small smile. “You gave it to him.” BOOM Everything tilted. Her past. Her crush. Her choices. Not innocent anymore. James He looked at her—really looked. Confusion. Hurt. And something worse— Disappointment. “…Dielle?” he said quietly. The Boyfriend “You weren’t just part of the story,” he said. “You started it.” To be Continued....
