~The next morning~
Ally wakes up at 7 AM like she does every morning, and makes breakfast. An assortment of pancakes, with bacon and eggs. Jack walks in, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, she says “Good morning... What smells good? And what’s the special occasion?” He says as he notices that she’s wearing Luke’s shirt. “Did something happen last night? OH. Uh, did you..?”
“Oh god no. Jack, you know me better than that. There’s a lot to talk about but right now I want to enjoy this morning and have breakfast with you guys. Wanna start the coffee for me? We’ve got a long drive coming up. And please, don’t bring this up. This was a one time thing.” She said as she tugged on Luke’s shirt.
“Uh, yeah sure... so I take it you decided to come to Colorado? And please tell me there’s chocolate chips.” He says as he turns the coffee maker on.
“Yes there is and yes I am. Do you really think I’d miss a good human vs shapeshifter fight?” She says with a smile.
“I’m glad you’ve changed your mind... Where’s Luke?” He says as he steals a piece of bacon.
“He’s taking a shower. Should be out soon. And hands off! Gotta wait till it’s all done.” Ally says as she smacks his hand away.
A few moments later as Jack sets the table and Ally brings the food over, they hear a big bang. With a quick glance at each other they run for the bathroom, and Lucas isn’t there. They run down the hall to his room, and he’s collapsed on the floor, seizing. Ally rushes down to him and flips him onto his side. “Go get the med kit!”
Jack runs to the storage room, and Ally is speaking softly to Lucas, “Don’t you dare stop breathing. Your going to be fine.” She strokes his back, in hopes it will somehow make him stop.
Jack comes back with the seizure kit, and has a stretcher with him. “Here. Watch out.” Jack puts a needle with some type of dark liquid into Luke’s chest.
“What is that?” She asks concerned.
“It’s angel blood. It’s supposed to help fix anything wrong with a human.” He says as he takes a deep breath. “Look. The foaming stopped... Let’s get him to the medical room.”
They place Lucas on the stretcher and carry him to the med room and hook him up to a heart monitor. His heart rate is stable, but he hasn’t woken up yet. “Why isn’t he waking up?” Ally says with concern in her voice.
Jack looks at her with hope and says “Lucas can explain that when he wakes up. You should hear it from him. But it did do a pretty good number on his body. The angel blood is just doing its work.” He says as he stands up and walks towards the door. “I’ll wrap the food up. You stay here and keep an eye on him.” She nods her head. “Hey. He’ll be okay.”
“Okay.” Ally smoothies the hair out from her face and takes a seat next to Lucas.
Jack walks away and Ally turns and looks at Lucas. She holds his hand and says “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.” She grabs a book off of the table that reads ‘Enochian for Beginners’. “Nice. What good is that gonna do me... Caspian, if you’re out there, please come help him. Or at least tell me what I can do. I don’t want to lose him. It would kill Jack if he lost his brother.”
In an instant with a flash of bright light, stands Caspian at the foot of Lucas’ bed.
“Hello Ally. Interesting to see you again.” He says with a grunt.
“Hi. Look, I know the first time I saw you I kinda tried to kill you, but in my defence I’d never seen an angel before and I met you before I even found these guys. So I guess I’m sorry for trying to cut your head off. But right now Luke needs help. Is there anything you can do?” She says with a whimper in her voice.
“This has happened before. Once every year or so he feels the effects of the Mark of Cain being removed, from his arm, and his body shuts down for a few hours. How long ago did this happen?” He said.
“The Mark of Cain?! What do you mean?” Ally may know a lot about the Foster brothers, but not everything. “He’s been like this for about an hour. Is there anything you can do?” She says, pleading.
“I can try and see if I can speed the process up, but Jack has already put my blood into his heart. I’m not sure how much more of assistance I can be. But I will try.” Caspian walks over to him, and places his hand on Luke’s chest. His hand glows a soft yellow, like the sun. Slowly, he pulls his hand back as Luke’s eyes start to open.
“Luke? Luke, can you hear me? Are you okay?” She said with tears rolling down her cheek.
“Ally... I’m sorry I didn’t tell you... once in a while-“
“I know. Cas told me. The Mark of Cain?” she said, confused.
“I liked the power. I was invincible. I had died once, and I came back as a demon and I was even more powerful. The mark was almost impossible to take off. Had to team up with a pretty awful witch to do it.” Lucas sat up, and Ally crawled onto the single bed, and put his head on her chest, holding him. “I’m pretty sure this is supposed to be the other way around. I don’t think I’ve ever been the little spoon.” He said with a laugh.
“I need this. Just for a bit then I’ll go.” She said, shaking.
“Stay as long as you want. But trust me, I’m alright.” He said as he wrapped his arms around hers. Soon, Lucas fell back asleep, and she slowly started to shift him aside so she could get something to eat.
