ALEX POV.
“By my power I see into this mans soul. Is it black, or made of gold?”
The god-like voice booms from the man in front of me, and we are standing on the sand on a beautiful, but empty island. It’s your typical looking island; hundreds of trees and bushes, wonderful summer wildflowers, and there’s birds and other living animals you can hear hidden in the forest. The God of the Sea stands next to me, and gives me a side glance.
“So, tell me about Ally. What is she like?” He asks.
“She’s amazing. When we first met I felt a connection to her, and I wanted nothing but to protect her, love her, and be her home. Even before she knew we we’re mates, she was kind. She had her reasons for hating vampires, which were very justified, but she spared my life and judged me fairly.” I think back to our first time meeting, and I get lost in my daydream. “She was gentle, and tried to make me comfortable despite knowing who my father was.” I sigh and look over to Poseidon. “My father caused her and Athena a great deal of pain and loss. He slaughtered her family over a simple mistake that her father made.” I feel my throat swell, and choke back tears.
“When I found out what he did, I no longer cared about my life. I wanted to end his life for hurting her, even though I knew it would kill me. Our first, real, kiss, was… indescribable. Her touch, her warmth… it was then I knew I wanted to spend forever with her. She became my reason to breathe. When we finally marked each other,” I lift up my shirt and show him my mark. “She was not only my air, she was my life. Her pain, her anger, her happiness, all became my own. Last night when she tried to change me, I was scared. I knew drinking from her would make her weak, and I didn’t want to take it too far. I didn’t want to risk losing her, and gaining what I’ve been trying to achieve for as long as I can remember. I would die if I lost her.”
“It sounds like you care a great deal about her.” He turns his head towards me and gives me a gentle smile.
“I love her. I love Ally with everything I have.” A tear rolls down my cheek and I quickly wipe it away. “What do I have to do to make sure the change worked?” I pray his answer is an easy task. But I will do anything I have to.
“Would you give your life for her?”
“Without a second thought, yes. I would.” A few moments pass and we stand in silence.
“I must go now, we will finish this another day. Good-bye for now, Alexander Blackwell.” Before I can say anything, water crashes over me and I fall asleep. **********
**
I wake up and I have my love wrapped in my arms with drool on her cheek. “Good… evening.” She smiles as she wipes her drool away and I look at the clock and see it’s almost ten. “How was your sleep? After Poseidon left you passed out so Peter put us up in one of the spare rooms.” I stretch and shake my head.
“It was weird. I asked him how I can be sure the change worked, and then he told me he had to leave. So I guess we wait until he’s free again, or something.” I kiss her forehead and we both sit up. “For now, let’s get on the road and go find Salem. We have to make sure your family is safe. Figuring me out will have to wait a bit longer.” She gives me a frown and then starts to get dressed.
“I hate that we have to keep waiting. I don’t mind if you’re still a vampire, but I know it means a lot to you.” She sighs as she pulls her shorts up.
“And I hate that the longer we wait, the longer my father gets to live. But sometimes we don’t get what we want right away. As long as I have you, I’ll be alright.” I stand in front of her and take her soft, warm face in my hands. She gives me a smile, and it melts my heart. The way she looks at me could turn me into jelly. God, I love this woman. I pull myself down to her and kiss her deeply. Her hands get tangled in my hair and my arms wrap around her curvy waist. We both jump apart when someone knocks on the door.
“Guys, we gotta leave. Now. Theres a group of Vampires standing outside and they do not look happy.” Peter sounds worried, and I swing open the door and take Ally with me to the front room. Anthony walks in through the front door and locks it behind him.
“Alex, it’s Christian. He’s asking for you.” My stomach drops and I feel Ally’s heartbeat pick up its pace. I see the look of terror on her face and pull her into my chest. “He says he wants to talk.” I nod and I help Ally walk with me to the door.
“How would he have gotten out? How did he find us? What if he hurt Jack and Lucas? My Mom?!” Ally asks. I hold her tight and rub circles on her back.
“I don’t know, but we’re going to be okay. I won’t let him hurt us. I need you to stand behind me, and stay behind me. Please listen to me this time.” She nods and I kiss her forehead and let her go. I look at Peter and Anthony and they’re both worried. I walk over to them and give them both a sad smile. “Keep her inside.” I whisper. They both nod and Anthony hands me a broken chair leg made of wood as Peter opens the door for me. I step outside and hear my mates cries as the door is locked behind me with her inside.
“Alex, my boy! I’ve found you.” My father is soaked in blood and so are his followers. I can smell death on him and know that he spared no one.
“What do you want? How did you get out?” My voice is strong as I walk down to the grass. There’s about a hundred feet between us, and he has about twenty people with him. Some of them are people I used to call friends.
“I want my son back, of course.” He opens his arms and laughs. “You belong with your own kind, Alexander.”
“I never wanted to be one of your kind. I never wanted to be your son.” I spit my words out and can feel my anger burning from my face. I clench my fists and take another step. “You will not get me, or Ally, or anyone. So leave now and you’ll be spared. Go far, far away from here and never come back.” He laughs again and takes a few steps towards me.
“Oh Alex, I don’t think you believe how a monarchy works. The King makes the rules, not the Prince. You will obey me until the day I die. In case you forgot, I am immortal.”
“You may be immortal, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be killed.” I can smell his rage at my words and he shakes his head.
“Find the girl. Bring her to me.” About a dozen vampires make their way to the house, and I call out for Anthony.
‘I need you. Tell Peter to keep Ally inside.’ I link him and I’m thankful that my connection to Ally also helps me connect to them. A moment later I hear the door open and close and Anthony is standing next to me. “Help me keep them away from the house. Aim for the head.” He nods and we both take defensive stances in front of Peters house. I hear Ally scream and the next thing I know she’s right beside me. “I told you to listen!” I yell.
“And I told you that we stay together! No matter what.” I nod my head and focus back on the vampires surrounding us. Peter rushes to our side and looks ready to fight. Vampires begin to swarm us and we all begin to attack each other. Peter is using water to surround two that are charging at him and then turns them to ice. With two quick kicks he knocks their heads off.
Anthony is indeed a skilled fighter, and is having no problem ripping heads off of every vampire that gets close enough. The rest of Christians flock begins to charge at us and they’re starting to overpower us. “We need to scare him away! We can’t kill Christian yet. Not until we know the change worked!” Ally yells over the hissing and screaming of everyone around us and we stand at each other’s back. I take a deep breath and make the hardest decision of my life.
“My love, there is only one way to know if it worked.” I take off and rush past all of the vampires between me and my father, and we break out in to a fight. Behind me I hear Anthony, Peter, and Ally all fighting to survive. I land blow after blow to my fathers face, but no matter how fast I move he’s still stronger than me. I’m thankful I remembered the stake hidden in my waistband. I grab Christian by the arm and kick his legs out from under him. With his back facing me I pull him up to his knees and take one last look at my mate. She’s held by her arms as she tries to run towards me. “I love you.” I give her a sad smile as I plunge the stake into the Vampire King’s heart and my world goes black.
