Chapter One - Ecstasy

2070 Words
On the seventh anniversary of her family’s murder, Ally is found walking about Times Square in New York. With so many different lights and sounds one would think it would be impossible to focus, but for her, it’s the opposite. She notices each individual person and takes in every detail. The way they look, the way they walk, what they wear, and where they’re headed. Its one of the many talents that Anna Blake has thought her, which has helped her become a better hunter. ‘Being a hunter isn’t always about being the strongest or the fastest. Sometimes its about being the smartest.’              She walks past several different restaurants, clubs and stores, but she feels drawn to a night club by the name ‘Ecstasy’. The name is written in big, white letters on a black background, large enough for anyone to see from a mile away. She notices the long line up, so she walks up to the bouncer, slips him a fifty dollar bill and walks right in. The club is two levels, each with dozens of semi-private booths, dimly lit with a very strong smell of regret and desperation. Walking right up to the bar, she orders a shot of whiskey and a glass of wine. Leaning against the bar in her knee-length black dress, with her hair full of waves, and four inch red heels, she runs her hand down her thigh to make sure her blade is still in place. She checks her watch, and it is slightly past midnight.              It’s high peak time for demons and monsters of all kinds to be roaming about. Again, she takes in every detail of the place, finding darker spots in corners and behind booths, scanning the dance floor, and checking the new people that walk through the door. Finishing her drink, she turns back to the bar to get a new one, when out of the corner of her eye, she notices a familiar face. It was of a man, who she saw just a few hours earlier, walking the opposite way of her to the other side of town. Traffic was crazy so it would have taken him at least two hours to come back this way, by foot or by cab. With a couple side glances, and a small smile, she takes her wine and heads toward a booth in the corner of the club. Turning back to see if he is following her, they lock eyes and she keeps walking.                She sits down on the end of the half-moon booth, and he soon arrives after her. She stands up, and presses herself into him. “What’s a beautiful lady like you doing in a place like this?” She can sense that he is a vampire, with his pale skin and his dark gloomy eyes. She feels a chill up her spine, which only happens when she’s around a supernatural being.              She whispers in his ear, with one hand on his chest, and one at her side, “I have some business to take care of.” She pushes him down into the booth, pulls out her blade and points it to his stomach. “Where’s the rest of your friends?” She sits on his lap, so to not look suspicious.             The man chuckles, but does not show any fangs.  He tries to stand up, but she braces her arm around him with her dagger pointed to his heart. “Try again. You’ll be gone in a split second if you make another move. Last chance. Where are they?” She spoke with a low, stern voice, staring into his lifeless eyes. He becomes furious, and picks her up and throws her onto the table across from them. In mid-throw, her blade slices into the mans arm, stunning him. She can’t tell if he’s a werewolf  or  vampire  yet,  as  it is  a  silver  blade  laced  with  vervain.                     Two girls and a guy see this, and they try to come and help when Ally screams, “NO! Get out of here! Get everyone out this isn’t safe!” She picks her blade up off the ground, points to the fire alarm, and tells the man to pull it.                “What? I can take care of this guy!” He starts to walk towards Ally, and she pushes him back, hard.                “Listen to me! It is NOT safe here, and unless you have some magical super strength, do what I say and get OUT!” She looks over to the girls and says, “One of you pull the f*****g fire alarm and get as many people as you can out of here!” The three bystanders take off and one of them pulls the handle on the fire alarm. Water pours from the ceiling and people start to scream and run out. Ally runs down the stairs to the middle of the dance floor after everyone is out, calling the monster on. “Let’s go pretty boy! I’m just getting started!” The man jumps over the ledge about thirty feet from her, and stands still. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees two men step out from the shadows bearing their jagged fangs.  “Vampires huh? Figures. Easiest way for you to feed and not get caught. Move your way from girl to girl, leaving a bit of your blood behind to heal them... A+ for effort though. Now, who’s ready to dance?”               The three men hiss, and like almost every other time Ally has fought, they attack one at a time. The first takedown was too easy. With a quick spin around to get enough force in her swing, she cuts his head right off. His head rolls around right in front of her foot, and she laughs. “Come on, I know you guys have better moves than that. Show me what you can really do.” She said with a smirk.  They both charge at her, and she dips to the side to be able to fight the man on the left, who appears to be the weaker of the two. He lands a hard punch to her face, causing her to stumble back. They both stop and watch to see what she will do next.               “Come on girl, we know you have better moves than that.” The tall man snickers. She sees a bottle of vodka, and she picks it up and takes a swig.                “Oh don’t you worry, I’m just getting started.” She pushes herself off of the counter and runs in a full circle around the man to her right, all while spilling the vodka all over the floor. With a quick side step, the vamp slips and lands on his back. Ally takes her zippo out of her bra, and lights it before she drops it onto the vodka causing the vamp to burst into flames. Unfortunately, the sprinklers are still on so he won’t burn as long. Crying in pain, the vamp runs away and dips into the bathroom. With the weaker one left alone, she charges at him and slices his throat in the process. She slides onto her knees and spins around staring at the men’s washroom, and waits for the last vampire to return. She starts to stand up when the main doors to the club open. She spins around and hides the blade behind her back. She stares blankly at the two men, trying to figure out how to explain what just happened, and why shes covered in blood.               She recognizes the taller of the two, and lets out a gasp. “Jack? What are you-“  She’s cut off mid-sentence, when something knocks her over her head, and she falls to the ground. She sees Jack and his friend rush over, and she screams. “NO! Get out of here!” The man kicks her in the stomach, and laughs.  He picks her up by her hair and turns her to Jack, and spoke.                “Put the weapons away boys. Take a step and she dies.” He brings his mouth closer to her neck, and she can feel his hard breath against her skin. She slams her head into his, and he drops her. She tries to run but he grabs her by the arm, pulls her back and sinks his teeth into her neck.               She hears Jack yell, and sees him running towards them. With a quick step to the right, Ally moves far enough to the side that Jack can stab the vampire right in the chest. He misses the heart, and sinks his blade into his side instead. The vampire lets go of Ally as he screams in pain, and takes off before Jack can finish the job. She remembers the sound of his voice now. It’s the same vampire that slaughtered her family seven years ago.               “Ally, are you alright?” He takes a few steps towards her and she stretches her arm out signalling him to stop. With one hand on her neck covering her fresh bite mark, she stands up. Through the fire alarm and sprinklers still going, she says;              “I’m fine. Why are you here? And who’s the deadweight?” She points to the man standing still with his blade in hand.              “Hey! This deadweight has a name you know. I’m Lucas.” He holsters his gun and walks over.              She looks at Jack confused.  “You mean the brother that ran off with your dad and didn’t talk to you for years?” She bends down to the dead vamp on the floor and rips a strip of his plaid shirt, and ties it around the bite on her neck.              “Yep. The one and only.” Jack crosses his arms with a smirk on his face.             Ally smiles at him, then turns to Lucas and cranks him hard in the jaw. “That’s for abandoning Jack. And whatever you did between then and now.”              Lucas rubs his jaw, stunned, and says “Fair enough. So what are you doing here anyways? You’re kinda small to take on a vampire.”               Ally’s face turns sour as she gives Lucas a cold stare. “If you look around, there’s two more bodies of the floor. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover, jackass. I’m not some helpless little girl.” Jack looks at her with worried eyes as Ally’s face has gone pale, and she is still bleeding. He lays a hand on her shoulder and says;             “Let’s go get you fixed up. I’ve got a med kit back in the car. It’ll only take me a few minutes to patch you up and give you an injection to stop the venom.” He holds her arm to keep her balanced. She takes ahold of his shoulder so she can take her shoes off. “I can’t believe you did all of this in heels. I’m impressed.” He lets out a laugh. “You’re always surprising me Allycat.”             “Hey, whatever a man can do a woman can probably do it better in heels!” She said with a laugh. She picks up her shoes, and with her head high she heads for the door. She knows she can’t walk much longer, but she doesn’t want to seem weak. Her sound becomes muffled and she can tell she’s lost a lot of blood. She pushes the front door open and the second her hands come falling to her side, her head starts to spin and she loses her balance. Jack came running up and caught her just before her head hit the ground.             “Al, it’s okay I’m here... gonna be okay... stay awake...” and with that, she falls into a deep sleep.
