"It was my fault for letting you go too far into my life."
"Stupid! What have I done?" Soraya screamed in her heart. She can't forget what Robert said this morning. She felt so tormented by guilt.
Soraya thought that her life would change, her love for that man would be reciprocated. But in fact quite the opposite, Robert hated her. All of this happened because of her stupid obsession and her too great curiosity.
"Why am I so stupid? Even though it was just a dream, how could it all come true?" Soraya wanted to cry, but it felt like her tears had dried.
She was back in her room, brooding to herself regretting her failure. Last night she had a beautiful night with that man, but after that she escorted Soraya back to the dormitory with a very cold look on her face. She didn't even say anything as if they didn't know each other.
Kriiieeettt...
Her bedroom door opened, Kerry walked in with tears streaming down her face. In a hurry, Kerry jumped onto her bed and burst into tears.
"Josh... where are you...? Josh, I missed you...!" Kerry wails like a lost child who has lost her mother. No, this was even worse than a child's cry. Kerry was crying and screaming hysterically.
Soraya didn't know what made her so depressed just because of the madness of such a useless man?
Seeing her crying hysterically like this did not necessarily make Soraya sympathize with her. Soraya actually felt scared and hoped that she would not be involved by Kerry's reckless actions this time.
Soraya grabbed her bag and phone and rushed out of the room, trying to ignore Kerry and all her grief. Although it was a little sad to see her cry, honestly Soraya was relieved that she didn't have to see Josh again.
Soraya walked hurriedly out of the dormitory building. In the yard, she saw several police officers who were still on guard and searching for evidence that might still be around the location.
Inspector John Smith who was standing by the bushes, turned to her and watched her. Inspector Smith smiled slightly, then walked over to her.
"Miss Chamberlain, would you like to go?"
"N-no, I just wanted to buy something for a second-"
"Is that so? It's a coincidence that I'm meeting you now because I have a few questions to ask. Do you have time?" Asked Inspector Smith. Soraya hesitated, she didn't know what other questions to ask her because she felt she had answered them all.
"Ok, Please!"
"Did you know the results of the examination of the corpse of the young woman who drowned in the lake?"
"Yeah, I saw the news this morning. I really can't believe it-"
"Forensic results show that the body is that of Diana Brown who disappeared on Monday. That means, it has been a week since she was declared missing. Examination showed that her body had been in the lake for five days, meaning she has been in the lake since monday, namely the day she was declared missing. We also found signs of very severe violence all over her body. Blunt marks on the back of the skull which we suspect were the first injuries he received before being killed."
"Killed?"
"That's right, Miss. This case was declared a homicide case. There were some signs of extreme violence, especially the part of her mouth that was ripped up to the ear. We also didn't find her eyeballs. We're still gathering evidence for now, but the shoes we found a few days ago were found to be Miss Brown's DNA. However, there's no DNA of the perpetrators either on the shoelaces or the body."
Soraya trembled, this was much worse than she thought. Her dream at that time was when she met Diana who was soaking wet asking her to leave before she was found by 'that person' who was definitely the one who had killed her. But who? Who is the person Diana is referring to? Is that Josh? Or Robert Stanley?
"Are you all right, Miss?"
"Y-yes, I'm fine! But who has done such a cruel thing to Diana?"
"Therefore we are still investigating. At this time, we are trying to find other evidence such as clothes or belongings of Miss Diana Brown and also the perpetrators who may have been left around the crime scene. Therefore I would like to ask for your help, Miss Chamberlain. you can help us!"
"What do I have to do?"
"Currently we have two people who we suspect are involved in this case and it is possible that one of these two people is the suspect we are looking for. But before we tell you. We hope you can cooperate with us, Miss Chamberlain!"
Inspector Smith looked at her Seriously, it was clear that he had hope in Soraya to help them solve the case, considering that Soraya was the last person Diana was with that day.
"Okay, I understand. I'll try to do everything I can to help, for Diana's sake."
"Thank you, Miss! First, I would like to ask about Robert William Stanley. He is a painting professor at the Faculty of Arts and also a famous painter. Do you know him personally?"
"I was one of his students. But—" Soraya wasn't sure to tell them about the very brief personal relationship she had with Robert Stanley. It was just a one-night stand, though she wanted it to last longer.
"I don't have any personal relationship, just a lecturer and student."
"We saw the car this morning in front of the fence, we also saw you get out of the car. Can you explain to us what happened?"
"I'm staying at his house!"
"Is that true?"
"Yes, right!"
"Then did you find anything suspicious in the house. For example, a painting, paint and brown cloth?"
"Brown cloth?"
"That's right, Miss. We found some dried red paint on the grass around the lake as well as a league of brown thread stuck in Diana Brown's hair. At first we thought it was her hair that had fallen out, but upon inspection, it was a thread that had fallen out. It probably came from the brown lint that was cut off and tucked in her hair."
Soraya was silent, as if a thunderbolt had struck her head. Paint? Brown cloth? How is that possible? She didn't know what to say. Even though Robert Stanley has a brown cloth and a painting in his house, that's not enough to prove that he was the culprit.
"Was he the culprit?" She asked weakly. Soraya couldn't believe that last night she slept and had s*x with a would-be suspect in the murder of her best friend.
"That's still not proven, because when we were interrogated, Robert admitted that he often went to the lake to paint. Not only on the day Diana Brown was killed. He also had a pretty strong alibi. That day he only got teaching hours until 1 pm , after that he went to the gallery in manchester to register his work to be entered in the competition. We have asked several people who have been at the gallery and they claimed that that day Robert Stanley was with them until 9 pm."
"Does that mean he wasn't the culprit?"
"Since his alibi was strong at the time, we cannot identify him as a suspect. Given that it was not one or two people who met him in the city gallery that day, but almost a community. Although the day after Diana Brown disappeared, Miss Kimberly Walter admitted to seeing a man went into the woods and brought an object covered with a brown cloth. The man we suspect was Robert Stanley and he admitted that day he did go to the forest to paint. But he didn't see anything stealing."
"Th-then, he wasn't the culprit?"
"We are still investigating it, considering that the DNA of the perpetrator on Miss Brown's body was not found as well as her belongings such as the pants or clothes she was wearing at the time. So far, they have not been found, although some of our members have dived and searched the bottom of the lake, not found."
"What about her phone? Can't it be traced?"
"We are trying to trace it, but the latest data shows that her cellphone was in the vicinity of the crime scene and the traces were lost on the spot. Even though we've searched for the cellphone, we still can't find it."
"How can the culprit think that far?"
"We suspect that the perpetrator was a very intelligent and experienced person. Arguably this is not the first crime he has committed and what we are concerned about is that the perpetrator is still at large as he is still able to text you a few days after Miss Brown's death. The perpetrators are people who are part of this University, considering that he is very familiar with the location around the university and the dormitory and also the people closest to the victim."
"W-what about one more person? Who do you think it is?"
"Joshua Peterson. Do you know him?"
"Jo-Joshua?"
"Yes, he is a former mechanical engineering student, but did not complete his education because he was often involved in several criminal acts such as s****l harassment, violence, assault and robbery. He has been in and out of jail three times for the same case and lastly we suspect him as a potential suspect. Have you met him? This is a photo of his face, maybe you've seen him wandering around the dorms!" Said Inspector Smith, showing her a photo of Josh on his cell phone.
Of course Soraya knew him, he was also the one who had made his life miserable while here. Even though she had been suspicious of him from the start, Soraya didn't think that Josh was such a dangerous person.
"I know him!"
"Is that true?"
"Yeah, she's the boyfriend of my roommate Kerry Smith."
"Miss Kerry Smith? Yesterday she came to the police station to report her boyfriend missing. I haven't told Miss Smith that Josh is one of the suspects we suspect."
"So, Kerry doesn't know yet?"
"We haven't told her yet because we still have to gather sufficient evidence. In addition, there could be indications that they are cooperating. Because it is very suspicious if one of the suspects suddenly disappeared. We were afraid this could be an escape attempt knowing that he had suspected."
Soraya was at a loss for words, all the horrific problems involving her made her almost unable to believe that she was actually in a situation she had only seen in movies. Josh and Robert Stanley, two people who have strong potential to become suspects in the Diana murder case. But, who is the real culprit?
"But, what made the police suspicious of Joshua?"
"One of the students Monday saw him come out of the woods on the night of the incident carrying a rope around 12:30 pm. They were supposed to meet at the warehouse behind the art faculty at 10 pm. But since Joshua wasn't there at that time, this young man decided to go back to the dormitory. around 12.30 pm. He saw Joshua Peterson coming out of the forest in a hurry. However, the young man only told us what he saw that night on Saturday when he wanted to report the abuse case Joshua had done to him a few days earlier."
"That person, could it be?" Soraya thought. She immediately thought that the boy Inspector Smith was referring to was the one Joshua beat up in the warehouse with her.
Soraya did not know who the young man was, she had seen him for the first time when they collided in the corridor a few hours before Diana disappeared. At that time, she looked very annoyed and even rebuked her and Diana for trying to help him.
"Then, what should I do?"
"I ask for your help to monitor the movements of Robert William Stanley. Immediately notify us if there is anything suspicious. Because we have strong suspicions on him!"
