Guilty

Soraya covered her ears tightly. She was really frustrated with everything that happened. Even though the police have allowed her to go home. But she still did not move from this place. She didn't know how she would return to that place after all that had happened? Nor was she sure that anyone would allow her to stay in their room, considering how they blamed her for Kerry's death. "It wasn't my fault... it wasn't my fault!" Soraya wept in front of the police station. She sat on the bench and hoped no one saw her in this place. A few steps ahead of her, David, James and Kimberly came rushing over to her. David's face looked panicked, he wanted to immediately meet Soraya and help her through all this trouble. "Soraya? Oh my God, what happened? Are you all right?" David asked as he touched Soraya's face with both hands looking into her eyes which were already swollen from crying all day long. "David, you better not ask her anything just yet! We'd better take her to a quieter place!" Kimberly said. "Kim, that's right! There's a cafe over there, it looks deserted! We'd better go there!" Said James. David agreed and led Soraya to a cafe across the street. They took their place in a quieter and more comfortable corner of the room. Soraya sat limply, she didn't say anything and just followed them. "You definitely haven't eaten, have you? Better eat first!" Kim immediately called the waitress and ordered a cup of tea and a bowl of cream soup so that Soraya could eat first. Soraya did not refuse, she immediately ate after the food that Kimberly ordered came and ate it without taste. Her face was very sad and pale, she looked so glassy and it made her three friends concerned. After 30 minutes of silence, David was getting impatient and wished he could hear what really happened to Kerry Smith straight from Soraya's mouth. He was sure what the residents of the dormitory said and what happened was actually different. Soraya looked down, she couldn't cry anymore. It felt like her tears had dried and she was also very tired. Just like David, James also wanted to hear an explanation from Soraya. But Kimberly was different, she didn't expect Soraya to explain to them and just wanted Soraya to feel better. "Sora, what exactly happened?" David asked quietly. "Oh God, you're still asking that? Is it that important for you to know what really happened? You already know, why are you still asking?" Kimberly asked annoyed. She did not understand why David was insensitive and could not read the atmosphere. Kimberly felt that David always wanted to know everything about Soraya without thinking about Soraya's feelings. "Kim, I didn't ask you! Even though I already know what happened, that doesn't mean I can take it for granted. You better shut up!" David replied curtly. He threw a cynical look at Kimberly who was sitting next to Soraya. Kimberly looked back at him with more cynicism, but this time she tried to resist the urge to argue with David. "Kerry, she's dead-" Soraya said in a low voice. David and Kimberly immediately focused on her and tried to listen carefully. "It's not your fault! I know you're trying to blame yourself, right?" Kimberly said. "No! I don't want to blame myself for anyone's death anymore! I don't want to, I don't want to make myself guilty. I don't want to be responsible for anyone's life, not anymore!" Her tears flowed. Soraya felt a tightness in her chest. She didn't know how many times this had happened to her. So much happened in her fairly short life. Yet again and again, she had to be the one responsible for the wounds of others. Both Kimberly, David and James. Those who listened to what Soraya said had to admit that they did not understand what Soraya was saying at all. They looked at each other for a moment, before turning their attention back to her again. Soraya's eyes were blank. She still felt that what happened today was a dream. She felt that she was still sleeping in her bed and had a bad dream. "They said Kerry was dead at 6pm, a few hours before I got back to my room. But I'm sure that night I saw someone sleeping in her bed. I saw her hair and her body covered in a blanket. I also heard voices. Her breath that I usually hear every time she sleeps. But why? Why did they say that Kerry was dead before I got home? Why did they say that?" "Didn't you turn on the light in your room when you got home?" James asked seriously. "I wanted to turn on the light, but because I saw someone sleeping in her bed, that means she's asleep. I decided to keep the room dark so as not to wake her up. She'd definitely wake up if the lights were on, she'd be grumpy and I hate that!" "So you kept the room dark until you went to sleep?" Kimberly asked. "Yes!" "Didn't you see that something was hanging from the ceiling in your room? There must be some light coming into your room, either from your phone or the street lamp coming through the bedroom window!" "No! The room is really dark, but I'm sure there was nothing unusual that night." "If what you say is true, this is really weird! Did the police identify the time of her death incorrectly?" Kimberly said. She found this really strange and mysterious. "But, I don't think it's possible, the police must have done a very good check. So, such a mistake is almost impossible!" Said James. "What I want to know, what really happened between you and Kerry Smith? People started spreading rumors that you were the one who made Kerry commit suicide. I know that's not true, so I want you to tell me, what really happened? I know you've been hiding something since her suicide attempt a few weeks ago and the reason why you arrived at Mr Stanley's that night was because you had a fight with her!" David asked. Kimberly and James' eyes widened, hearing David's confession that Soraya had stayed at their lecturer's house. Although Kimberly had expected this since she saw Soraya getting out of Robert Stanley's car that morning, it was James who was the most shocked and could hardly believe what she was doing. "Se-seriously? Soraya, are you staying at Mr Stanley's house?" James asked half-screaming. His reaction was too much. Soraya did not panic even though her friends finally found out. But she felt that she had no obligation to tell them all that had happened to her. "I was in the wrong for trying to cover it all up. I thought if I stayed quiet and solved all this problem alone. Then, the problem would really be over. But I was wrong and it was too late. It's meaningless if I tell you now, it's too late. Kerry is dead and Josh is missing. Whatever I say can't be the truth because they're both gone!" ***
