*Six’s POV*
The next day during calculus, things seem to be fairly normal between Axle and I, which disappoints me more than it should.
Walking into Chemistry, I know we’ve got our first actual lab today, which I’m actually kind of excited about. I walk up to the bench and Emmett, the guy who usually sits at my bench, comes over.
We haven’t spoken too much, but all of our interactions have been pleasant enough. He’s on the football team and he’s tall with light brown hair that’s just long enough to show a few waves. Objectively, he’s very attractive with his blue eyes, dimples and boyish smile. He’s not really my type though. He’s way too pretty.
“Hey,” he says, flashing me a smile.
“Hi,” I say, smiling back politely.
“So are you excited for our first real chemical experience?” he asks, as he leans on the desk.
I look at him and say, “That depends, would you think I was a giant dork if I said yes?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Then, yes I am excited,” I say grinning.
“Me too,” he replies. The teacher comes in and explains the lab we’re going to be doing and hands out the instruction sheet as well as the report questions we’ll have to fill in.
We start by gathering all of our equipment and chemicals and when we’re ready to start Emmett looks at me and say, “Alright, let’s neutralize this bitch.” I can’t help but laugh. I put my hair up and then put on my safety glasses and he says, “You know, I think you might be the only person I’ve ever met that looks good wearing safety glasses.”
I smile a little and say, “Thanks, I think?”
“You’re welcome.” We get started and the experiment goes so well that we actually finish a little early and once we clean up, the teacher says we can go. He walks with me and says, “Hey, so, um, I was wondering if you maybe wanted to go grab some dinner with me sometime? I mean it doesn’t have to be dinner. We can do something else instead.”
My first thought goes to Axle for some reason. Which is stupid because I literally owe him nothing. And sure Emmett isn’t the type of guy I usually go for, but maybe it’s time to try something new. Historically, going for guys who are my type hasn’t worked out so well.
“Yeah, I would like that,” I say and stop walking so I can face him. He stops and looks at me, a big smile showing me his dimples and perfect white teeth is plastered on his face.
“Really? I mean, good, yeah, um, how about Friday?”
“I think that works. I’ll have to double check just to be sure, but I can let you know.”
We exchange numbers and I tell him I’ll text him before we split up to go to lunch.
I get to our table and the rest of the gang is already there. I take a seat and Luna asks, “So, how was everybody’s morning?”
Everyone talks about their classes and then when it’s my turn I say, “We did a lab in chem and then Emmett asked me out on a date,”
“Emmett as in Emmett Ashford?!” Luna asks exuberantly. I nod and she says, “He’s so hot. What did you say?”
“I told him yes.”
“What about Axle?” Cleo asks.
“What about him? Like I said yesterday, nothing is going on.” And even if there was, if he can f**k a girl in a closet, I can go on a date. I don’t say that last part out loud, but it’s true.
“So when is the date?” Lexi asks.
“Friday.”
