Construction site
Alex is still at his office at the construction site. He is alone in the office as he had dismissed Mariana. Only the construction workers were left. He could still hear their call to each other for materials, the sound of a hammer hitting a nail and also the sound of the workers turning cement to mold bricks.
‘Do these workers not realize that it is getting late', he mutters, ‘when there was time for them to do all this work during the day they did not do it, rather they spent their time arguing amongst themselves'.
He spends another half an hour working and sorting through the reports from his other companies before deciding it was time to head home and close for the day. He is about locking up his office when he recalls that he had left Sasha at his penthouse. He knew that there was a very big possibility that she would still be there and would be expecting him to come back there.
He lets out a sigh of frustration before placing a call to his personal assistant and gives him instructions to book a hotel for him as quickly as possible and also get an outfit for him that he could use the next morning for work.
He then heads back to the office and goes straight to the bar to get a drink. He pours himself a glass of whiskey as he needs something hot to calm his fraying nerves. As he drinks he lets his thoughts fly around to different aspects of his life. From work and the stress of handling many companies all by himself. He had been advised several times to at least leave the work for the managers to handle but he had always had this belief that ‘if you want something good done to your taste, you have to do it yourself' and he was an absolute believer of perfection and he did not want to have any regrets later if the managers made any mistakes.
His cellphone rang with his personal assistant on the line. The sound made him recall that he was yet to switch on his other device as he had switched it off because of Sasha and his mother. As he remembered his mother, he let out another sigh before picking his assistant's call. He would have to deal with that later. Right now, his focus was on where to lay his head for the night.
“Sir, I have booked a room at the Hotel del Coronado and ordered your tomorrow's clothes for you. They have already been delivered to your hotel room, Sir”.
“Good, make sure you do not tell anyone from my family most especially my mum of my whereabouts if any of them calls”. Alex tells him.
" Yes Sir”, the assistant replies.
" Good, have a good night's rest”, Alex says and ends the call.
He finishes up his drink and returns the glass to its place at the bar, picks up his briefcase and heads to the elevator to take him down. He gets to his car, dumps his things on the passenger seat before he begins to navigate his way to the Hotel del Coronado his assistant had booked. He was not a fan of hotels except when he was on a trip and since San Diego was his hometown, he however did not have any reason to lodge in a hotel. He was really hoping that this place would be up to his taste, not that he had any other option than to spend the night there anyways as it was already two hours to midnight.
He soon gets there and he goes straight to the receptionist and tells her that he had already booked a room there. He says his name when asked and was soon on his way to locate his room with his key card in hand and a doorman leading the way. They soon locate the room and he tips the doorman off before turning to survey the room. He is soon awed by what he sees and agrees that the place was simply magnificent.
As he looks around the room, he is enveloped in a sense of nostalgia. The high ceiling and large windows made the space feel airy and light, and the rich wood furnishings and decorative trim add a touch of elegance. He felt like he had stepped back in time, but with all the modern comforts he needed for the night as the room Queen Anne-style architecture.
He finds the outfit his personal assistant had arranged for him on the bed and picks them up to set aside on the wardrobe. He returned to sink into the plush bedding and felt like all his worries and stress were gone as it had a soft cloud-like feel. He took off his clothes and prepared to head to the bathroom for a shower. He was soon met with another beauty as the bathroom was not left out of the room's finesse. The marble-clad bathroom was a full tranquil oasis, and the rain showerhead was the perfect idea to help him unwind after the long day he had had.
He was soon done with his shower and proceeded to call room service to bring up dinner for him as he had not had anything else since lunch. He soon finds the telephone on the dinner table and a menu card next to it.
"Good evening, this is room 319. I'd like to place a room service order for dinner, please." Alex says into the telephone.
"Good evening! Thank you for choosing room service. What can I get for you tonight?", the staff at the other end of the receiver replies.
"Could I get the Grilled Filet Mignon, Pan-Seared Salmon, Side of Sautéed Mushrooms, and a Bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, Silver Oak Alexander Valley?"He says, picking his choices from the menu.
"Excellent choice! And for dessert?"
"I'll take a slice of the Chocolate Lava Cake, please."
"Great! Would you like me to send extra utensils and a corkscrew?", the staff asks.
"Yes, please. And add the bill to my to my tab”
"No worries, Sir, as that has been duly noted. Thank you, room 319! Your room service order has been placed. We'll deliver your dinner within 45 minutes. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to call. Enjoy your meal!”
"Thank you! I'll be looking forward to it.” Alex says and hangs up.
He moves out of the room to the patio after the call and is treated to a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean, which was actually a nice relief from all the stress he had undergone throughout the entire day. As he settles in, he begins to notice the thoughtful touches that made the room truly special. The cozy reading nook was the perfect spot to curl up with a good book, and the comfortable sitting area was perfect for enjoying a glass of wine or a cup of coffee if necessary. He mentally applauds the hands that went to work on the design of the room and the entire hotel.
He gets a knock on the door signifying that his meal had arrived. As he opens up a different doorman steps right up with his tray of food and drops it on the dinner table. He asks if to open the bottle of wine to which Alex replies negatively.
“When you are done with your meal, sir, please call room service to come pick the dishes.", he says and steps out.
Alex nods and shuts the door behind him. He settles down and digs into his meal savoring the taste and flavor of the different spices and ingredients used in the preparation of the different delicacies.
He finishes up his meal and calls up room service to come tidy up the dishes. He keeps the bottle of wine and carries it out to the patio to sit and enjoy such a peaceful evening while enjoying the feel of the night breeze. After sitting for a while, he soon heads to the plush beddings as it was almost midnight already. He switches on his mobile device as he knew his mother would already be asleep by the time.
The next morning
Alex is woken up by the sound of his ringtone blaring the entire room. He picks up with sleepy eyes without even looking at the caller.
“Hello", he says.
“Alex Greg, you feel you can ignore and disobey me your mother"
Alex is wide awake immediately as he ransacks his brain for a useful explanation.
“I'm sorry ma'am", he says. “I was just too busy with work"
“Too busy with work you say? In fact, this conversation is too heated to be had over the phone. I give you the next hour for you to show here at Greg's mansion. Anything less than that would attract a penalty.”
" Okay ma'am. I have heard you. Let me go and prepare. I'll soon be on my way to the mansion.”, Alex replies.
