Alex in the hospital.

At the hospital

Alex has been placed in a private ward in the VIP section of the hospital. He is yet to be awake. The doctor had examined him and had confirmed to the Greg's that nothing major was wrong with him except that there must have been something that had triggered his memories. He says that they should just give his body time to recover on his own accord.

Mrs Greg is on the couch in the ward, reading a book while waiting for Alex to wake. Her husband had gone out to get supplies they might need while Mariana's branch manager went back to the company with the hope that Mr Greg would call him as soon as there is a new development with Alex. She is there alone for more than an hour when she hears her name. She looks around and wonders who had called her as she was the only person in the room apart from sleeping Alex. She hears her name again and finally turns to the bed and sees Alex trying to get up. She immediately rushes to him and gets him to lay down. She then presses the intercom by the side of his bed that is connected to the doctor's office. Soon the doctor steps into the ward and begins to examine Alex. The doctor asks him if he was feeling any pain in his head. He replied negatively. The doctor asks him if he recalls the activities of the day and he answers positively. The doctor prescribes some pain killers for him just in case the headache occurs again and tells him that he is free to go back home at any time. Mrs Greg thanks the doctor and promises to make a donation to the hospital. The doctor thanks her for her kind and gentle gesture before stepping out.

Mr Greg soon returns and his wife reports everything that the doctor had said back to him. He then calls Mariana's branch manager and tells him the good news of Alex being awake.

Alex is still awake all this while but is staring at the ceiling lost in thought. He is recalling the event that brought him to the hospital. He knew something was not right with the way Mariana had triggered his headache. He knew he had lost his memories due to an accident as the Greg's had told him the circumstances behind their finding him. He had been a victim of a ghastly hit and run accident involving a truck. The truck driver was nowhere to be found as there were no casualties except him. The experts that had come to the scene had thought of him to be dead but Mrs Greg was not convinced.

Ignoring her husband's order to stay in the car, she went to check on Alex herself. As she checked his pulse, she felt a weak pulse and immediately rushed him to the hospital where he had been for 8 months. Throughout his stay at the hospital, no one had reported any missing persons or had come to claim him and since Alex did not have any of his memories back apart from his name, they did not know how to trace his background. They decided to adopt him as they did not have a child of their own and after he was stable, Mr Greg decided to leave his company and estates for him to run as he was already in need of a replacement. They had had a son who had died through food poisoning with his wife leaving them with a 12 years old grandson. Mr Greg had managed the company all alone after his demise.

They all knew that whatever had triggered such a headache in Alex had to definitely be something connected to his past. What they did not know was how big the connection was.

At Mariana's office

Mariana and Yolanda were seated in her office till Gerald and Jake had joined them. Everywhere was silent as Mariana did not want too much noise except the voices of Yolanda and Jake who were talking in hushed tones to avoid pissing Mariana off.

The telephone on Marianas desk rings, interrupting the silence as everyone turns to look at it. Mariana groans before picking up. 'Hello', she says into the receiver, ‘This is the desk of Mariana Beth. How may I help you?’ The person at the other end tells her that the branch manager was back and was summoning all directors and their personal assistants to the conference room with immediate effect. Mariana springs up to her feet and tells Yolanda and Gerald the information. They all go to the conference room except Jake who goes back to his office as he was neither a director nor an assistant.

Mariana, Yolanda and Gerald get seated as soon as they enter the conference room and await the presence of their manager. Mariana's heart was beating fast as she was nervously hoping that her manager had news about Alex. She had said a silent prayer for his recovery and she hoped that God had answered it.

Their branch manager soon steps in and sits, signaling everyone present to do the same. He then breaks the news of Alex's speedy recovery to them and tells them that the meeting will have to be rescheduled till whenever Alex picks a date for it to hold again. He then turns to Mariana and informs her of her impromptu leave that was to take effect from the next day as it was a Thursday to the following Tuesday. She was asked to resume work on Wednesday morning. Their branch manager stood up signaling the end of the meeting and after he left the directors began filing out.

Mariana stayed till the close of work as there were only a few hours left. She uses that time to book the first flight to lod for the next day and clear up her desk and finish up with files that were due in her absence so that Yolanda could submit them when she was away. She tidies up, packs her things when it is time to go, bids farewell to Yolanda before entering the elevator down. She meets Gerald there and bids him farewell before stepping out of the building. She steps into her car and drives off.

The next morning

Mariana is already seated at the airport terminal as she waits for it to be time for her flight. Sha had booked the first flight to los Angeles and could not wait to be home as she had a slight phobia for heights.

As soon as her flight is called, she moves along and drops her luggages off before entering the plane. After following due process and protocols, the plane takes off.

The same morning

Cole's office

Cole is seated in his office calmly watching an enraged Kate pace the entire length and width of his office. She is pissed with him for fooling her and letting her lose in the end while taking Mariana to himself. She is pestering Cole to introduce her to some of his friends as pay for taking Alex out of her life leaving her with no one else.

Lucas steps into the office and Cole signals his guards to drag Kate away and warn her never to step foot in the company's premises as she should be prepared to lose her the moment she does otherwise. She screams fanatics at Cole and curses him as they drag her out. She promises to be back no matter what. She screams that Cole can not just cheat her and go scot free, that karma would definitely catch up with him. Cole laughs at her and reminds her that she was also part of it and that if karma would ever come it would get to the both of them. Kate continues screaming all the way out

As soon as Katesl’s voice is no longer heard, Cole then turns to Lucas and asks what news he had this morning. Lucas tells him that the informant that was placed to monitor Mariana had come with his report of the past day. He tells Cole that Mariana had been granted a leave from work and was already on a flight back to Los Angeles at the moment. Cole asks if there was a particular reason that she had to leave so early and without as much as a call to him.

Cole asks Lucas if he knew anything about the reason she left and Lucas replies negatively. Cole is pissed and begins to pace around as Kate had done earlier. He wonders what was so urgent that she had to leave so quickly. Was he really that irrelevant that she could not even talk to or tell that she was traveling? He dismisses Lucas.

Lucas steps outside and smiles. Actually the informant had told Lucas the reason for Mariana's departure as he had also seen Alex. But Lucas decided to keep that piece of evidence hidden because he knew that if his boss found out about Alex, he would try to stop Mariana and also try to kill Alex again. He had gotten tired of his boss always trying to have his way in everything and was about to let karma have its way this time around.
