Still at Alex's penthouse
Mariana is on her way back from the kitchen with the snacks she had been sent to get and had just stepped back into the office.
“What took you so long? What if I needed the drink urgently? Or was about to die of thirst? I would not be surprised if I die and I look down to earth and I see that you are actually very happy about my demise", Alex asks immediately as she enters the office.
Mariana laughs and places the tray she was carrying on the mahogany desk and clutches her stomach as she was laughing too much before turning to reply him:
“But Sir, if you die, how would you know if I would be happy or not about your death, when you would have already been dead”.
" Well, do not be shocked at my capabilities Miss Beth”.
“ Oh I would never doubt them Sir”, Mariana replies, "Well , you can't blame me for wasting so much time when you have such an exquisite kitchen. I was simply enjoying the view". She shrugs.
" Imagine the reason you kept me waiting” Alex replies shaking his head, “You have such a keen eye no doubt that is part of the reasons you are good at your job. And you keep reminding me of something or better still someone but I have been trying hard to recall who or what and I can't. it makes me have this feeling each day I wake up that I am forgetting something important but no matter how much I try it never just works out”.
Mariana goes quiet again as she knows that she was the person he was talking about.
“Just keep calm and trust the process. With time, you will remember it”.
" How are you so sure, Miss Beth?”Alex asks, looking at her with a suspicious look in his eyes.
“Sir, it is getting late and we need to finish up with these files so that we could start with another set tomorrow”, Mariana says in an attempt to avoid the question.
" Miss Beth, Miss Beth, it is obvious you are trying to avoid the question”. Alex says with his eyes still trained on her watching her every move. " I could decide to take you back to it and force an answer out from you quickly but what would be the fun in that? But instead, I will let it slide”.
Mariana lets out a sigh of relief under her breath. Alex forcing an answer out of her would reveal her identity to him and he might not even recall or believe her either.
They both go back to working on the files together and in the thirty minutes to one hour, they are done.
“Good, now come on to the security to add your fingerprint to the gate so that you could come in here anytime you are needed without having to call me each time. Pack up your few belongings at once as my driver will drop you off as soon as we are done there. Do not worry as it would not take long. We just need to add your biometrics to the security system of the house and you are good to go. And Miss Beth, hope you know that you would be coming here tomorrow and not your office at the company as we have to finish up with the documentation process before heading to the site for the construction process to begin”.
“Yes sir", Mariana replies with a nod and begins packing up her stuff before following him back outside to the gate house.
The process of biometric capturing does not even take up to five minutes and Mariana is soon in the back seat of a Corvette E-Ray Convertible 3LZ on her way back home comfortably. As she gets home she finds her car already packed in front of her apartment in her driveway. She smiles and thanks Alex in her mind, steps inside and shuts the door behind her back.
She just falls on the couch before saying a word of prayer to God for a successful day before going on to the kitchen to find dinner. As a single person staying alone, one of the most stressful tasks is thinking of what to eat daily. If care is not taken you might even end up not eating for the entire day just because you just don't know what to pick.
Well, luckily for Mariana she has already pre cooked dishes and put them in her freezer. So all that was left for her was to microwave one of them to eat. She decides on veggies and bean burritos.
She then heads to her bedroom to take off her clothes while her food is in the microwave. She begins her night skincare facial routine before she hears the timer chime. Rushing back to the kitchen, she brings out her meal from the microwave and sets them up in a tray before carrying them to her room as she would be eating there. She goes back to complete her facial routine before eating up and going to bed immediately after.
Weeks later
Cole is still pestering Mariana for a date at least even if it is a lunch date during her break but she refuses to even spare him the tiniest bit of her time. He tries to put in more effort by sending flowers, notes and food trays occasionally to her door post in the morning before she wakes, but Mariana dumps each and every one she finds and if she is around when the delivery comes, she sends it back through the person that brought it.
Ethan too is not left out in the power tussle to win Mariana's heart but it was all a waste of time as Mariana's heart was already with someone else. He finally got her phone number and began disturbing her with calls and text messages all of which she ignored. He even went the extra mile to get her an invite to a dinner party held by one of his acquaintances as his date and also got her a matching dress, heels, jewelries and accessories to go with his tuxedo. He came over to pick her up but met an empty apartment. She did not even see or notice the invitation or the dress until the next morning when she was about to leave for work and sent it off to Yolanda as a gift without even opening the box to check the contents. Tore up the invitation card and continued to her journey to work like nothing had ever happened.
Ethan does not just stop there after seeing her disinterest but instead continues to send her notes and flowers too, occasional dinner date invites or party invites most times. He even tries to show up at her office but is told at all times that she was not working from there at the time being. Any attempt to find out where she was working from proved futile as no one, no matter how much money he threw around, agreed to help him, because no one wanted to get on the bad side of neither the branch manager nor Alex as it could cost the person his/her job.
Mariana and Alex also begin to get along well enough. They are on their way to Alex's penthouse to get a few files that contained designs for the part of the building they were at. They make a stop at McDonald's to grab a quick lunch takeaway that they could eat quickly when they get home before getting back on the road again.
When they get there, they place their order with Mariana going first. As the foodie she is Mariana decides to go for the Chicken McNuggets Meal which contains:

World Famous Fries
Medium McDonald’s Fruits and Yoghurt smoothie
While Alex goes for the Filet-O-Fish meal which contains:
A Fillet-O-Fish sandwich
World Famous Fries
An unsweetened iced tea
Alex pays for both of their meals before they leave.
He makes one more stop as they pass a garden shop. He gets in and picks gardening tools and seeds. He drops them in the trunk with the food before they get on the road again.
Mariana is left wondering what he was planning to do with the tools at the seat and when she could not bear it anymore decides to ask him.
“Sir?"
“Yes Miss Beth", Alex answers.
“What are the tools and seeds for?"
“Miss Beth, what are garden tools and flower seeds used for?", Alex replies with a chuckle.
" Well, you do not look like someone that is into gardening”, Mariana replies.
" True, but it is not bad to try, is it?”
Mariana nods in affirmation and remains quiet till they get to his penthouse.
He drives in and Mariana carries their food while Alex orders his men to drop off the tools and seeds at the designated area.
Alex opens up and they both step in together.
They are both shocked at the sight that greets them as soon as they get out of the elevator to the penthouse.
“Hey boo '', a feminine voice shrieks from the kitchen area and they both turn to the direction of the voice.
