Chapter Forty-TwoHaving left the bodies back in Bovey and, with the paperwork duly completed, Simms rode off towards Twin Buttes. White Dove begged him to allow her to accompany him, but this time Simms' insistence she stay behind won through. He rode hard, taking only short stops to allow his horse to recover, easing off its saddle, wiping her down, feeding her oats whilst he himself partook of salt-biscuits and gulps of water.
