Chapter 4

As Andrew and I continued to talk and get to know each other, our connection grew stronger. We went on dates to fancy restaurants, explored new hiking trails, and even took a weekend trip to the beach. One evening, as we were sitting in a cozy café, sipping on lattes and enjoying each other's company, Andrew turned to me with a serious expression. "Adelaide, there's something I want to talk to you about," he said, his tone hesitant. I felt a sense of worry wash over me. Was he going to break things off with me already? "What is it?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. "Well, I know we've only been seeing each other for a few weeks, but I feel like we have a really strong connection," he said, his eyes locking onto mine. "And I want to be honest with you - I'm starting to fall for you." I felt a rush of emotion at his words. Even though we had only been seeing each other for a short time, I felt a strong connection with him too. "I feel the same way, Andrew," I replied, smiling at him. "I'm glad you said something." We continued to talk, discussing our hopes and dreams for the future. I felt a sense of excitement and possibility, like anything was possible with him by my side. As we left the café, Andrew took my hand and pulled me close. "Adelaide, I know this is fast, but I want to be with you," he said, his eyes earnest. "I want to see where this goes and build something special together." I felt a surge of emotion at his words. Even though it was a big step, I knew that I wanted to be with him too. "I want that too, Andrew," I said, smiling up at him. "Let's see where this takes us." I couldn't stop thinking about Marcos. Even though I cared deeply for Andrew, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was using him as a rebound. I needed time to sort through my feelings and figure out what I truly wanted. So, I decided to take a long walk in the park, hoping that the fresh air and quiet surroundings would help me sort through my thoughts. The park was a peaceful oasis in the midst of the bustling city. The trees were tall and leafy, casting dappled shadows on the ground. The sound of birds singing filled the air, and the scent of flowers wafted on the gentle breeze. As I walked, I thought about my relationship with Andrew and what it meant to me. I remembered our conversations, our laughter, and the moments of intimacy we had shared. But I also couldn't help but remember my time with Marcos - the way his smile lit up a room, the sound of his voice, and the way he made me feel alive. When I returned home, I knew that I needed to talk to Andrew about my feelings. I couldn't continue to string him along if my feelings for him were not genuine. That evening, I invited Andrew over to my apartment, hoping to talk to him about my thoughts. "I need to talk to you, Andrew," I said, my voice soft. "Of course, Adelaide. What's on your mind?" he replied, his eyes filled with concern. I took a deep breath and began to speak. I told him about my past with Marcos, and how I had been struggling to move on from those feelings. I told him how much I cared for him, but how I couldn't shake the feeling that I was using him as a rebound. Andrew listened patiently, his eyes never leaving mine. When I finished speaking, he took my hand and spoke. "Adelaide, I understand how you feel. And I want you to know that I care for you deeply, no matter what. If you need time to sort through your feelings, I'll be here for you. And if you decide that you don't want to be with me, I'll accept that too. I just want you to be happy, Adelaide - whatever that means for you." I felt a sense of relief wash over me at his words. I knew that I had made the right decision in talking to him, and that I had a true partner in Andrew, someone who cared for me deeply and wanted me to be happy. As I walked into the office, carrying a box of donuts to share with my colleagues, I felt a sense of nervous anticipation. Today was the day that the chairman would announce who would lead the company merger project, and I was hoping that I would be chosen. As I made my way to my desk, my colleagues greeted me with smiles and congratulations. "Congratulations, Adelaide! We heard that you got the project!" Sarah, my closest colleague, said, giving me a warm hug. I felt a sense of relief and excitement wash over me. It was a huge honor to be chosen to lead such an important project, and I was thrilled to have the support of my colleagues. As the day wore on, I couldn't help but think about Andrew. I wanted to share the news with him, and get his support and encouragement. "Hey, babe, it's me," I said, as he answered the phone. "Hey, love! What's up?" he replied, his tone warm and cheerful. "I got the project, Andrew!" I said, my voice filled with excitement. "That's amazing, sweetheart! Congratulations!" he replied, his voice full of pride and happiness. "Thank you so much, babe. Your support means everything to me," I said, my voice filled with gratitude. "Of course, honey. You're an incredible person, and I'm always here for you," Andrew replied, his voice warm and reassuring. As we talked more about the project, I couldn't help but think about what it meant for our relationship. "Andrew, I know that my past with Marcos has been a source of worry for me. But with your support and love, I feel like I can face anything, even my own fears and insecurities." "Adelaide, I love you for who you are, past and all. You don't have to be perfect for me, because you already are," Andrew said, his words filling me with a sense of comfort and love. As I hung up the phone, feeling a sense of joy and excitement, I knew that I was ready to take on the world, one project at a time. With Andrew by my side, and the support of my colleagues, I knew that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. And as I looked ahead to the future, I felt a sense of excitement and possibility - a feeling that anything was possible, as long as I had the courage, the determination, and the love to see it through.
