After a few more rounds of teasing, Ada stood up. “I’m going to need another beer and maybe a shot of something stronger if I have to listen to this anymore.” The girls erupted into fresh guffaws of laughter. A couple of them calling to Ada to get them another beer, too. Ada walked up to the bar, politely squeezing into two small groups of people sitting at the bar. When the bartender walked by, she hailed him. “Hey Lurch!” She said, calling him by her nickname for him. “You rang?” He said. Smiling, she gave him her beer orders and an order for a round of a shots. While he was getting her order, she asked, “How’s your night going?” “Not too bad. It’s a little busier than usual.” “But that’s good for you.” “It is.” He agreed. When he had everything on a small round tray for her to take, he asked, “These on separate tabs?” “No! You know the answer to that. Put it on mine, please.” She lightheartedly said. “I know, just wanted to make sure.” “I know. And I appreciate it.” She reached out and grasped his arm quickly in friendship affection. She took the drinks and went to walk away, she paused and looked her shoulder, “I’m sure I’ll be back soon!” She said laughing.
