4 years before
Ada sat at a bar next to a trio of men, that were honestly very handsome with their dark complexions. She sat next to the one that her friends insisted couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. She was in disbelief of that statement, since she was nowhere near being in the same league as his.
But when she had started to leave after fulfilling her friends’ dare, he requested she stay.
She was a little leery of his intentions, but she got back on the stool anyways.
She took a sip of her beer after asking them about their suits. They looked great in them, but this isn’t the area where people go during leisure down time wearing suits.
Dusty jeans, boots, and tee shirts, yeah.
Jeans, tee shirts, and hoodies, yeah.
Or sometimes girls dolled up in revealing outfits, but never has she seen someone here in suits.
She watched them exchange looks before answering her question. Finally, one on the far end spoke.
“We had a pretty important meeting in a nearby city. We’re passing through the area on our way to another city.”
“Soooo, y’all are wearing suits while traveling?” One of them nodded.
“I can’t see how that can be comfortable.” The one she sat next to shrugged and spoke. Like before, when he asked her to stay, his voice reverberated through her bones and made her legs tremble. The way his voice sounded, matched exactly how he looked. Deep, dark, and ah-maz-ing.
She gathered up her will to not fall prey to this one.
“Suits are what we wear pretty much every day. We must be more comfortable in them.” He said, but he didn’t add that their suits are actually quite expensive and usually tailored.
That is also quite indicative of comfort.
But he didn’t want to appear to be bragging, and he also didn’t want to risk her getting skittish and leaving.
She shrugged and took another drink of her beer.
Etienne smiled to himself at the nonchalance of this woman. He was used to women falling over themselves for his attention. This woman’s indifference was a breath of fresh air.
It was also infuriating for him, since this one in particular was whose attention he did want.
He was at a loss of what to do next to continue the conversation. It was frustrating for him, a prince, training to be the next king, was unable to engage further with a woman sitting at his elbow.
He felt his ego thoroughly bruised.
It didn’t help that he heard quiet snickering from the men on his other side.
He glared at them out of the corner of his eye.
That didn’t seem to deter them from their sniggering at his expense.
The attention of all three of them were quickly drawn to an exasperated sigh from the woman who joined them.
She set her beer down with a resounding thunk.
“Honestly. You men are as uptight as the suits you’re wearing. Comfortable, my ass.” Then she turned to hail the bartender.
“Hey Lurch!”
“You rang?”
“Let’s give these boys a midwestern greeting and loosen them and their ties. Would you mind bringing them a prairie fire shot?” She said with a mischievous grin. “Then you better have a ciroc ready for them.”
Lurch smiled knowingly and prepared the shots. Setting a shot in front of them that had a reddish haze to it. Then had shots set back that were clear liquor.
“Did he--?” Casmin started to ask.
“I think I just saw tabasco…” Adrian finished.
“Shut up. Nut up and drink boys.” The woman ordered taking another drink of her beer, with a smile.
The men simultaneously knocked the shot back.
Then simultaneously started coughing and yelling.
“THAT’S AWFUL!” Casmin roared.
Ada busted out laughing.
“Here guys, chase that with this vodka. It’s good stuff.” Laughing and pushing the vodka shots to the men.
After they finished the high shelf vodka, Ada’s laughing subsided to deep chuckling.
“Lurch, let’s give them some Chief shots.”
“No, no! No more.” Adrian protested.
Laughing Ada said, “These are good, I promise. You’re in this part of the Midwest, you better have one of these. Though judging by your accents, you’re not American, so I’m sure you don’t follow American football.”
“You’re right. We do not.” Etienne replied.
Ada just shrugged. “Still need to initiate you boys. Lurch I’ll have one too, and another beer if you don’t mind.”
He nodded then brought them their drinks. She knocked it back alongside them. Etienne had to agree, it was a tasty shot. Tasted like a child’s sugary drink.
Lurch took away their dirty glasses and Ada’s bottle.
“Alright. Are your ties loosened?” She said eyeing their throats. Then she continued.
“My name’s Ada. My loud group over there are my best friends.” She eyed them over her glass as she sipped her beer.
“I’m Etienne. These are my best friends, Casmin and Adrian.” He responded in turn.
“Nice to finally get your names. So, where you guys from that’s the source of the accent?”
