Jax’s Estate – Late Morning
The faint murmur of voices downstairs stirred Jax from the edge of sleep. He blinked against the soft light that filtered through the curtains, his body heavy, muscles aching from the endless night of blood, fire, and betrayal.
For a moment, he lay still, listening. Then he heard it—the unmistakable cadence of Nic’s voice. His pulse quickened.
Dragging himself from bed, Jax pulled on black lounge pants and padded barefoot across the marble floor. He stepped out of his room and down the grand staircase, following the sound.
And then—he saw him.
Luciano.
Nic was bringing bags inside, but it was Luciano’s figure just behind him that made the world pause. He looked tired from travel, but still impossibly radiant. The sight of him standing in the entrance of his home sent a rush through Jax—relief, longing, and a hunger he could no longer disguise.
“Luciano…” Jax’s voice was rough, sleep-heavy, but full of something deeper.
Luciano dropped the small carry-on bag in his hand and crossed the space without hesitation. The distance between them vanished in seconds, and suddenly, Luciano was in his arms, clinging to him as though the world outside didn’t exist.
Jax buried his face against Luciano’s hair, inhaling his scent—familiar, grounding. “You’re here,” he whispered, almost like he hadn’t believed it until now.
Luciano’s tone was soft but resolute as he pressed closer. “I am Amore.” His hands curled tighter around Jax’s back, reassuring them both.
Jax leaned back just enough to search his face, his thumb brushing along Luciano’s jaw. The exhaustion etched in his own features was nothing compared to the raw relief flooding his chest. “You have no idea what last night was like,” he said lowly. “What I had to—” He cut himself short. “I just needed you here.”
Luciano’s eyes softened. He reached up, fingertips tracing along Jax’s cheek. “I don’t need details right now. You’re here. I’m here. That’s enough.”
For a beat, silence stretched between them—only the sound of their breaths, their hearts racing in sync. Then Jax kissed him, slow but desperate, pouring into it everything he hadn’t said—the fear of losing him, the longing that burned in his chest, the promise that no matter what came, Luciano was his anchor.
When they broke apart, Luciano rested his forehead against Jax’s. “You look exhausted, amore,” he whispered. “Go back to bed. Let me take care of you this time.”
Jax let out a soft laugh, one that carried weariness but also rare vulnerability. “You don’t know how much I need that.”
Luciano smiled faintly, brushing his lips once more against Jax’s before guiding him back into the bedroom. And as they lay down, tangled together, Jax finally allowed himself to close his eyes again—not to the nightmares of war, but to the steady presence of the man who had become his only peace.

The night breaking morning at the estate had barely settled, the weight of their shared hours still lingering between them, when Jax’s secure line buzzed insistently. He had just closed his eyes, with Luciano leaning against his chest, when he caught the caller ID. Draco.
“Boss… sorry to disturb your sleep but it's urgent,” came Draco’s clipped voice over the encrypted line. “We’ve got word that Marco Bellini’s faction is moving assets without honoring agreements. They’re threatening the balance you worked so hard to maintain. He’s expecting someone to respond—quickly.”
Jax’s eyes flicked open, muscles tensing instinctively. “I’ll handle it,” he murmured, voice calm but lethal with focus. Luciano stirred beside him, sensing the shift immediately.
“You need to go?” Luciano asked, not alarmed, just observant.
“I do,” Jax replied, brushing a hand over his face. “And I need you beside me.”
Luciano nodded and by 4 a.m., Jax had briefed Draco and his trusted men, gathering intelligence and plotting their moves in meticulous detail. By dawn, their convoy wound through the outskirts of Milan, past crumbling warehouses and silent industrial complexes. Luciano rode beside Jax in the blacked-out SUV, eyes scanning the cityscape, but his attention kept drifting to the man beside him. Jax, despite the exhaustion etched into his features, sat straight, exuding a presence that seemed to command the very air around him.
“Are you sure you want me here?” Luciano asked quietly, breaking the silence. His tone wasn’t nervous—it was measured, observant. He wanted to see Jax in action, to witness the full scope of his reach.
Jax’s lips curved into a faint smile. “You said you wanted to understand the full scope. This… is it.”
Luciano nodded. He had faced enemies, orchestrated operations, and ruled territories—but seeing Jax in action, calm and deliberate, was something different. He didn’t feel powerless, only fascinated, analyzing every move, every word. “I’ve never seen anyone handle a situation quite like this,” he admitted.
Jax’s gaze met his. “Watch, observe. Let me handle the first impression.” His voice carried authority—calm, measured—but not overbearing.
By the time they arrived, the rival faction’s stronghold loomed like a fortress. Guards lined the gates, rifles slung over shoulders, eyes cold and assessing. Luciano’s jaw tightened. “They’re expecting trouble,” he remarked, almost analytically.
“Good,” Jax replied, his tone steady. “Let them think that. Fear and respect—both are tools. Used wisely.”

Inside, the room was dim, lit by a single chandelier that cast shadows over polished mahogany tables. The rival Don, Marco Bellini, leaned back in his chair, smirking. Around him, his lieutenants exchanged glances, sizing up the newcomers.
“Jax Kael,” Bellini said, his tone casual but dripping with challenge. “To what do I owe the… honor?”
Jax stepped forward, his gait slow, deliberate. “I came to talk business,” he said, each word punctuated with an authority that made the room tighten around him.
Bellini’s smile faltered, though he masked it. “Business? With me? Interesting. You’ve got quite the reputation, Jax. Too bad it’s mostly talk.”
Luciano observed quietly, noting the subtle shifts in posture and tension, but he remained composed. He had built his own network, controlled his own streets—he wasn’t intimidated. Instead, he appreciated the precision and intelligence in Jax’s presence.
“I don’t deal in talk,” Jax said evenly. “I deal in outcomes. You have two options: you cooperate, or you bleed your own territory dry. Your call.”
A lieutenant snorted. “And why wouldn’t we call your bluff?”
Jax’s smile was faint, almost amused. “Because you know what I’m capable of. You’ve seen the pieces move. You know the endgame. But maybe you need a reminder.”
He flicked his wrist, and a slim folder slid across the table toward Bellini. Photos, financial statements, intelligence reports—every weak point in Bellini’s operations exposed.
“Every shipment you’ve missed. Every ally you’ve double-crossed. Every contract you failed to honor,” Jax said, voice low and measured. “I can destroy your empire in a week. But that’s not what I want. I want alliance. I want order. I want you to live.”
Bellini’s smirk faltered, and the tension became almost suffocating. The lieutenants shifted uneasily; the weight of Jax’s presence was undeniable.
Luciano, standing to the side, couldn’t help but notice. He had built his own empire, yet there was a finesse in Jax’s method—strategic, psychological, precise. He was impressed, aware that Jax’s power was different, commanding respect without demanding it.
“Talk is cheap,” Bellini finally said, his voice tight. “You expect me to bend to a man who just… walks in and changes the room?”
Jax leaned in, eyes locking onto Bellini’s. “I don’t ask. I don’t negotiate fear. I earn respect. You either rise to it, or you face the consequences. And believe me…” His hand gestured lightly toward the files. “…I am very capable of both.”
A pause. Then Bellini exhaled sharply, leaning back. “Alright… KAEL. Let’s talk terms. But I warn you, betray me, and I won’t hesitate.”
Jax’s smile widened, calm and almost effortless. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Luciano’s chest tightened—not with fear, but with admiration. He had witnessed power before, but Jax wielded it like an art form—calm, unshakable, and absolute. He respected the man deeply, sensing the discipline, intellect, and authority that made him exceptional. A fierce, protective longing stirred quietly within him.
