EPISODE 42

The door to the study clicked shut behind him, but Jax didn’t carry even a trace of the tension he’d left inside. His stride was easy, his shoulders relaxed, his expression carved from calm stone. To anyone watching, it looked as though nothing had happened at all. But Luciano wasn’t just anyone. He was leaning against the side of the corridor wall, drink in hand, casually chatting with Antonio when his lover reappeared. The moment Jax’s eyes found his, Luciano excused himself with a smooth smile and crossed over. “Back so soon?” Luciano’s voice was low, meant for Jax alone. He reached out, straightening the collar of Jax’s shirt with a deceptively careless touch. His eyes, though, were sharp as knives. “What did you do?” Jax leaned down, pressing a brief kiss against Luciano’s temple, his lips brushing his skin like the faintest whisper. “Nothing you need to worry about.” Luciano’s brows furrowed. “Don’t lie to me. I can feel it. You walked out of there with that… energy. The one that says you’ve reminded someone why they should never cross you.” That made Jax chuckle softly. His hand slid to the small of Luciano’s back, drawing him closer as though they were simply another pair of lovers lost in their own world amidst the noise of family chatter. “Maybe,” Jax murmured, his tone silk over steel. “But I promised you, didn’t I? I wouldn’t do anything insane. I keep my promises.” Luciano tilted his head, searching his face, trying to read past the perfect composure. “So he said something, and you…” His lips curved in a smirk, though his eyes betrayed the worry he wouldn’t voice. “You put him in his place.” “Something like that.” Jax’s gaze softened, if only for Luciano. “Trust me, amore. Whatever storm you think I stirred up… I handled it. Clean. No loose ends.” Luciano exhaled slowly, torn between relief and suspicion. He hated being left in the dark, but the unshakable calm radiating from Jax told him there was no immediate danger. Still, he leaned in close, his lips brushing against Jax’s ear as he whispered, “You’re mine, Jax. Don’t you dare carry this war on your shoulders alone. If he tests you again… he tests me too.” Jax’s smile deepened, faint but wickedly possessive. “And that’s exactly why I’ll make sure he never does.” The two men shared a brief, charged silence—Luciano’s worry gnawing at him, Jax’s certainty a wall no one could crack. Then Jax straightened, releasing him just enough for appearances, and the two rejoined the gathered family as though nothing had transpired. But somewhere in the shadows of the house, Don Vittorio still sat unsettled in his study, replaying every word, every look, every unnatural weight in Jax’s voice. And Luciano knew—though Jax kept his calm mask—something had shifted tonight. They shared a quiet moment before Isabella dragged Luciano into a playful quarrel with Antonio and Marco, insisting he weigh in on some ridiculous bet. With a reluctant glance toward Jax, Luciano let himself be pulled into the cousin chaos. Alessio’s voice broke the soft hum of background chatter. “Funny, isn’t it? In this family, silence stands out more than noise.” Jax turned his head slightly, regarding him with that calm, unreadable gaze. For a moment, Alessio almost regretted speaking, but then Jax inclined his head politely. “Perhaps because noise is expected here,” Jax said, his tone even, detached. “Silence… unnerves people.” Alessio gave a small chuckle, lifting his glass. “You’re sharper than most of them give you credit for. I see why Luciano…” he paused, as if catching himself, “…respects you.” Jax’s lips curved faintly—not quite a smile. “Respect isn’t given freely. It’s earned.” “True,” Alessio agreed quickly, seizing the thread. “But not everyone is willing to fight for it. Especially not in a family like this.” He leaned a little closer, lowering his voice. “You don’t seem the type to bow your head. That’s… rare around here.” Jax’s gaze hardened almost imperceptibly, though his words remained calm. “I bow to no one. But that doesn’t mean I need to prove myself at every corner.” He let the silence stretch just long enough before adding, “Luciano is reason enough.” Alessio felt that sting, though he masked it with another quiet chuckle. “Loyalty like that… admirable. Some might even call it dangerous.” “Only to those who think they can test it,” Jax replied smoothly. The weight in his voice made Alessio’s chest tighten. It wasn’t a threat, not directly, but there was steel there—unyielding and final. Jax then glanced toward the laughter where Luciano sat with his cousins, his entire focus shifting away from Alessio as though he had already dismissed the conversation. Polite. Detached. Untouchable. Alessio swallowed down his frustration and forced another casual sip of his drink. “You’re an interesting man, Jax,” he murmured, more to himself than aloud. But Jax was already moving—his hand brushing along Luciano’s shoulder as he rejoined him, as though he’d never belonged anywhere else. Jax just sat there accompanying his lover who is happily chatting with his sister and cousins. Seeing his lover this carefree and happy, makes Jax happy too. His phone buzzed in his pocket. He takes it out and glanced at his screen, saw Draco calling, and excused himself briefly. Luciano watched him leave, curiosity flickering across his face. When Jax returned, his expression was serious yet calm. “Something urgent came up,” Jax said softly, his hand brushing Luciano’s arm. “I have to leave tonight. Luciano’s brow furrowed. “Tonight? Why? What’s going on?” Jax shook his head gently. “Don’t worry. I can handle it. You just… stay here. I’ve got it covered.” Jax smiled, a gentle reassurance. He took Luciano’s hand and led him to their room. As he began gathering his gadgets, separating the important ones from the rest. “Do you need Nic to drive you?” Luciano asked. “No, Draco and the others will pick me up,” Jax replied, a small smile tugging at his lips. “They’ll be here in about an hour.” Luciano studied him for a moment, then a slow grin spread across his face. “Since they’ve got an hour,” he said, stepping closer, “why don’t we make good use of it?” Jax’s eyes darkened with a mix of amusement and desire. “ Luciano doesn’t need further prompting. He moves toward Jax, pressing a slow, deep kiss to his lips. Jax melts into the kiss, letting it linger, letting every second stretch and hum with intensity. Their hands explore each other’s bodies as they slowly begin undressing one another, tossing clothes carelessly across the room. The soft rustle of fabric mixes with their breathy moans. Luciano lowers himself, teasing Jax’s most sensitive places with his mouth and hands, while Jax reciprocates, exploring Luciano with deliberate, reverent care. Every touch, every lick, every squeeze is slow, controlled, yet electrifying, making them both shiver. Jax’s movements are teasing, precise, coaxing moans from Luciano, who can’t help but respond, his body arching instinctively. Their rhythm becomes a dance of pleasure—Luciano giving Jax an exquisite blow, his hands guiding Jax with firm yet loving control, while Jax returns the favor, his tongue and hands worshiping Luciano, bringing him to the edge and back again. The intensity builds slowly, deliberately, each thrust, each lick, each movement heightening their shared need. When it finally crescendos, it’s not a rush—it’s a tidal wave that leaves them both trembling, hearts hammering, sweat glistening on skin. They collapse together onto the bed, limbs tangled, breathing heavy. Luciano rests his head against Jax's chest, inhaling the familiar scent of his lover, letting the adrenaline fade into warm contentment. “I love you,” Luciano whispers, his voice low, almost reverent. Jax kisses the top of Luciano head, one hand threading through his hair. “I love you too. Always.” For the next few minutes, they lie together in perfect silence, holding each other tightly, exchanging soft touches and lingering kisses, letting the world outside disappear. Clothes are scattered across the floor, their skin glistening in the warm glow of the room. Every touch, every heartbeat, is a reminder of their connection, their love, and the unspoken promise that they belong only to each other. Eventually, Jax brushes a finger across Luciano's cheek, smiling down at him. “We should go freshen up cuz Draco and the others will soon be here." he murmurs, though his tone is soft, tender, not urgent. Luciano sighs contentedly, nuzzling closer. “Yeah… but right now, I just want to stay like this. With you.” Jax chuckles, pulling him closer again. “Then we stay like this… just a little longer.” And for a long, blissful moment, they do. The world waits outside, but inside that room, it’s just them—completely, entirely, and irrevocably together.
