--- POV Esa ---
“I cannot just sit here and wait to see what is going to happen!” I shouted, slamming my hands on the table. The other three Origins were sitting around the table while we conducted our annual summit. An annual waste of time at this point. Nothing ever gets done. That psychotic spirit is still out there and all of us have something to protect now. This will not end well if we cannot find a solution.
“It’s not that simple, child.” Tylyn said. “I wish I could just flick my hands and – ” She froze mid-sentence and lurched forward.
We all stared at her frozen for a moment while Lilac raced to her side. “Origin Fae!” She called and wrapped her arm around her shoulder. A soft glow emanated from her and into Tylyn. After a couple of seconds, Tylyn started to gasp, and her eyes shifted from pitch black to her normal brown eyes. “Origin, are you alright?!” Lilac asked.
Tylyn shook her head. “A dark aura has left their bungalow.” She said as her face paled. “But how?” She asked to no one in particular, but it was no secret she was pissed about it.
Drac chuckled and leaned back on his seat. “That seems like your territory to fix Tylyn. It’s not something we will be able to help you with, I’m afraid. I guess Tylyn is right, it isn't that simple with her internal conflicts.”
Snarky as always. I rolled my eyes and Tylyn stood to her feet. “It’s not that. It’s much worse than that. There are only a few dark witches left in our realm and they have made it a point to stay close to each other. Strength in numbers and all, but this one…this child escaped without the penalty I placed on their bungalow's barrier.” She said.
“Penalty?” I asked, now a bit curious. “What penalty?”
She sighed heavily. “When I realized they were banning together, I allowed it to happen as long as they stayed within their bungalow. If they want to leave, they must as for my permission directly. I wanted to make sure I could keep an eye on them and minimize the risk of an attack from my dark counterparts.”
“Dark counterparts? You don’t seem so cheery yourself, Origin Fae.” Drac said with a hit of mischief in his eye.
“Vlad I’m serious! This child has to be a power I’ve never seen before. She…she would have to be as strong as…” She froze for a moment and her face paled again.
“As you?” I asked.
She nodded slowly and the room fell deathly quiet. There isn't a soul alive that is as strong as an origin...accept for...another origin. Just then, my phone buzzed and I could see it was Seth. They never call me. “Sweetie? What’s wrong?” I asked, once I had the phone to my ear.
“Mom, Em collapsed, and Tobias is raging mad right now. He doesn’t know what happened and I can’t calm him down. He just keeps shouting to get Tylyn to our house now.” Seth said, and I heard Tobias shouting in the background.
I took a deep breath. “Okay, we will go by portal. It will take too long to fly there.”
Tylyn looked over to me and I nodded for her to come to me. She was there in an instant and I put Seth on speaker. “Okay, that’s fine with me, but if Em doesn’t wake up soon, we will have Adir to deal with.” He said. Great, it looks like Tylyn's little mystery girl will have to wait. There have never been two Origin Faes at one time, so this cannot be possible. Therefore, it cannot be ignored for long.
“Okay, we will be there soon Seth. I will conjure the portal. I want to make sure she wasn’t attacked magically.” Tylyn started.
“What?!” Selvin shouted.
“Oh…heeeeey uncle Selvin.” Seth said with a bit of a whimper. “Full disclosure, it wasn’t our fault. She just walked up to Tobias and collapsed.” Seth added hurriedly.
“Take me to my daughter now witch!” Selvin shouted.
We both looked at him as steam started to fill the room. Sh*t, he’s about to shift. “Okay, okay.” Tylyn said, turning and opening a portal.
“I think that’s my queue to head home, but we can continue this discussion later. Maybe the mystery girl is related to the Darkness.” Drac said with a shrug before vanishing with his warriors in toe. Why do I get the feeling he's not wrong?
“Hurry up!” Selvin shouted and Tylyn winced irritably while their banter shot me out of my own thoughts.
“Shut up lizard!” She shouted and that didn’t help at all.
I ran up to Selvin and pressed my hands on his chest. I dug in as he tried to push himself towards Tylyn. “Now, now Selvin, we really don’t need to get physical. She is going as fast as she can. Tobias has Emilia safe and sound. Don’t worry about it, okay? My children will never let anything happen to her.”
“Then why is she unconscious?!” He shouted at me, and I took a breath.
“Calm down!” I bellowed and he fell silent as Tylyn continued her casting. “You know it takes a few minutes to get the portal open. We are going a bit of a distance. Like I said, my son has this under control. When we get there, you need to calm down or I will leave you here.” I warned, and Selvin nodded slowly as his dragon subsided.
“Sorry about that, it’s just….” He started while rubbing the back of his head finally calming down to the elder brother I know and love.
I raised my hand, knowing all too well what he is going through. “We take care of our own. Even if Emilia wasn’t his mate, Tobias would never let anything bad happen to her, so please, we will be there soon.”
“Actually, we will be there now.” Tylyn said, cutting into our conversation. I turned to her and the portal was opened and ready. “Shall we?” She asked and we all nodded and followed her through the abyss.
------
“Mom.” Seth said, running up to me. He gave me a hug that warmed my heart as much as his smile.
“Where is she, Seth?” Tylyn asked, and he turned to her.
“Hey Auntie. She’s with Tobias in their room. Second floor, last room on the left. Double doors.” He said, pointing out the directions.
Selvin ran for the stairs and Tylyn rolled her eyes and followed him. “What’s going on Seth?” I asked, concerned about their safety…like always.
“I don’t know but it was weird. We got home from the store, and she was completely fine. Then Tobias went to the kitchen with her, and I heard him screaming shortly after.” He recalled.
“Not good. Pup in trouble.” Lydia said, pacing in my mind. I winced and looked to Seth. He was fine so I ran for the stairs. Seth was close on my heels. When I made it to Tobias’s room I pushed open the door and Tobias was sitting on the couch tightly gripping onto his whitened knuckles as he stared into nothing. He looked terrified.
“Bro!” Seth shouted and immediately went to his side.
I turned my glare to Selvin, ready to rip his head off. “He yelled at our son!” Tali shouted.
Selvin immediately raised his hands as I felt the subtle burn of my eyes shifting color. “It wasn’t me. We came here and they were already like this.” He said before nodding to his daughter sleeping soundly on his bed.
I sighed in relief. “Good.” I said shortly before darting to my son. Don't hold it against me, but I would have physically mutilated Sel if he even mumbled in Tobias's direction right now. “Toby…honey. Mommy’s here.” I said softly, trying to get him to snap out of it. Then I realized his eyes were blazing…gold?! “Toby?” I asked again and he slowly stood up, leaving Seth and I where we were.
He walked up to Tylyn and looked down at his mate. Emilia. “How is she?” He said with absolutely no emotion.
“A powerful spell was used with no intended target, but the castor was definitely the girl she saw in the vision I’m trying to piece together. All I know if Felicity is not someone that we should fear, but someone we should protect? If not, this spell would not have worked.” Tylyn said as her subtly glowing hands grazed over Emilia’s body.
“What does that mean?” That wasn’t my son. Now I get it.
“Adir!” I shouted with all three of my spirits.
He froze and slowly shifted my way. “Yes, goddess?” He asked with a slight tilt to his head.
“Bring my son back now.” I growled using my authority. His eyes normally turn red when Adir takes control. The fact that they were gold is something I have never seen before.
He shook his head, but I could see him sweat. “He doesn’t want to…he…he….” Adir continued to wince and shake his head. “He's angry that he failed. Mate got hurt.” He continued. Adir was fighting me. Unheard of.
“So is his sudden eye change.” Lydia reminded me.
“Something we can deal with later. We have a child trapped by his spirit and another exhausted from a spell. We need to figure this out, but I can’t without Tobias. He can’t run from this.” I shouted back and Lydia submitted. She knew I was right. Why was he doing this? He would always protect his siblings and Emilia. There is no reason for him to shut down like this.
“I don’t care what he thinks! Adir, bring him back now!” I shouted once more with a bit more force and he collapsed on his knees gasping for air before looking up at me with sapphire eyes.
I sighed in relief. “Mom.” He said with a raspy tone and Seth immediately went to bring him to his feet. Once his eyes turned back to me, the pain I saw was unrelenting. It was as if he had lost her. She was just unconscious, but who knows what was going on before we got here.
I took a deep breath, and tried to put the situation in perspective. We cannot be mother and son right now. I know he's hurting but something is happening and I think this is what we were waiting for. The lead to the Spirit of Darkness. “Yes, we are here, now talk.” I said.
