--- POV Eyota ---
I rolled around in my black satin sheets as I reached for my soulmate, Cassandra. “Good morning, love.” I whispered to her as I pulled her small body into mine. She was my world and I’m so happy that her and I will finally become the King and Queen of the Vampires. Aldon, my twin brother, will become my second and Sonya will become Cassandra's. I've been waiting centuries for this succession.
She moaned and stretched before looking over at me. “It’s already the middle of the afternoon?” She wined and I chuckled.
“That is probably my fault.” I kissed her cheek, and she flew across the bed.
“It is your fault. No more fun time. We have to get ready in…” She looked over at the clock and gasped before flying off the bed and rushing to the bathroom. “NOW! We have to get ready now! I cannot believe we slept in until 4pm!” She screamed and I heard the shower running almost immediately.
I sighed and sauntered after my porcelain beauty. Once I hopped into the shower with her, her hesitation of…adding some additional delays went right out of her head. You would never think it's been over a hundred years since I found my mate. You would never guess, since we seem to be...inseperable.
I may be the Eldest of the Twins and one of the Gods of War, but my love for Cassandra will be my undoing.
--- POV Aldon ---
“NOW! We have to get ready now!” I heard my sister-in-law screaming from their room and I rolled my eyes. No off button for that one. The loudest woman in the room…always. I squared up to the punching bag swaying from the ceiling and wiped my shoulder-length brown hair away from my ruby red eyes before going at the bag again.
I went at it for another hour before I heard someone clear their throat. “Aldon?” The voice came from behind me and my lovely mate of fifty years, Sonya, smiled at me from the doorway. She was perfectly dressed in a purple and gold ballgown with long sleeves and it seemed like black heels underneath. She walked toward me with a steel…water bottle in hand and a towel in the other.
Her hair was held up in a simple bun braided back to the center of her head, revealing her succulent neck and the seal from my parents marking her as a turned human. Only those of the royal bloodline can see it and I’m glad. I don’t want anyone haggling her because of her race. Thankfully, she stopped aging centuries ago, but it took years for her to persuade me to change her. Initially, I regretted it, but in the end, we were happier for it. I didn’t lose her, and she didn’t lose me.
“Hello, my beauty.” I said before kissing her neck.
She shook and pulled away before giving me the bottle. We only drink blood after all. My father can eat human food, but my twin, Eyota, and I don't really prefer to eat much other than blood. It just tasted weird, but not inedible. “Thought you might want some.”
“That would be nice, yes. Thank you, Sonya.” She bowed while I started to drink. Once I was finished, I looked to her and nodded towards the door. “According to your sister-in-law, I think it’s time I get ready, no?” I asked curiously and she smiled and nodded.
Not as talkative as Cassandra, but she was my other half. Always. I kissed her button nose and headed off to our room to change. Sonya quietly followed behind.
--- POV Tobias ---
Once we got over all the pleasantries, we made it through the portal and Sapphire stuck to me like glue. The teenage boys were drooling at her, and I growled as a warning: She’s fourteen. Back off! They all cowered and scurried away. I guess they got the memo.
We all walked into the building and made it to our seats towards the front. Aldon and Sonya were there to greet us, and I walked up to him holding out my hand. “God of War.” I said mockingly.
He rolled his eyes and clasped onto my hand. “Ice King.” He countered.
We both waited a moment before laughing together. My sister looked between the two of us confused before she saw Sonya and her eyes brightened. “Big Bro – I mean Tobias, can I go talk to Sonya?”
I looked down at her and nodded. “Stay where any of us can see you, alright?” I asked and she nodded before running over to Sonya and pulling her towards the pews. “Where’s Eyota?”
“Not a clue. Where’s Seth?” I smirked at his ability to shift the question back to me, and looked around.
Once I found him, we both looked at each other and grinned. “Food table.” We both said at the same time and started laughing again. Aldon and I were good friends and once I hit high school, I tended to stick to the older crowd. Aldon and I just clicked. He may be around 800 years old, but he was good company to keep.
Eyota, on the other hand, is pretty much untouchable to everyone but his wife, Cassandra. I respect that and keep myself at a distance. We remain cordial, but it’s out of respect for our parents’ relationship over actually caring about him as a friend. Just like Seth and I, they are twins, yes, but their personalities do differ.
Some ask how I prefer to hang out with Aldon over Eyota, but I realized Aldon reminded me of my brother more than anything. That’s probably why. No dramatic backstory here.
Once we controlled ourselves, an extremely intoxicating scent overwhelmed me, and I froze where I stood. “Tobias! Good to see you, my boy.” Selvin called from a few steps away, distracting my sense of smell. His son and wife were standing on either side of him and we both clasped our forearms out of respect for seeing family - well, for all intents and purposes - again.
"I'll see you after the coronation." Aldon said before walking off. I waived towards him as he left with a nod.
“It’s been too long King Selvin and Queen Jas.” I smiled happily and we released arms. I went over to hug her and took a deep breath. The scent was coming from her, but it wasn’t as strong as I thought it was. It may have been coming from her, but she isn’t the original source. Maybe it was from someone she was around before? I pulled away from Jas and slapped my arm around Quil’s shoulders while discreetly looking around the room. “Nice to see you too, kid. Filling out I see.”
He huffed and a bit of steam came out of his teeth. “I’m not a kid Tobias!” He whined.
I smirked. “Case and point.”
His father laughed at that one, pulling a grin from me. Then I smelled it again. Rose and Sandalwood. Where is it coming from?
Before I could go out and search, I heard someone clear their throat and we all turned to the raised dais at the back of the room. “Thank you everyone for coming!” Vlad called out to the crowd. “Please, take your seats, the coronation is about to begin.” He called. D*mn.
At that moment, the doors opened, and we all made it to our seats to reveal Eyota and Cassandra walking in together. Both had black attire and gold accents of jewelry while Cassandra added some lace to her extravagant ball gown. “Presenting, Prince Eyota and Princess Cassandra!” The new King has arrived.
We all stood and bowed to the Royal couple as they walked down the aisle in the intricately detailed black, grey, and silver room. I grit my teeth and held my breath as my Lycan bashed around in my head.
“Find it! I want to find it!” He growled loudly. I glanced around me and realized I was surrounded by our family, Selvin’s family was further away and my actual Aunt and Uncle – Terrence and Katie – were sitting next to us. “Find it!” Adir shouted and Seth flinched.
“The hell is wrong with Adir?!” He asked, confused, and looked over to me when we finally sat down.
Great. He’s bringing his brother into this. “Don’t worry about it.” I said shortly.
“Oh sh*t! Have you found your mate?!” I growled under my breath, and he whimpered and shut up.
“Thank you all for coming again. Eyota, Cassandra, please bow.” Vlad commanded, and they both bowed. Eyota helped his wife a bit, receiving awwhs from the crowd.
“Find it! It’s mine! Mine!” Adir kept growling and I winced.
I need this stupid ceremony to end. I have to get out of here. “Honey, what’s wrong?” My mother’s voice came through and I shot my eyes at her. “Your claws are out.” She cooed.
I shook my head once. “Nothing.” That’s all I could get out as I tried to hold back my Lycan. I took a deep breath and forced my claws to recede, unfortunately, to no avail. Professionalism was the least of Adir's problems.
“What are you hiding?” She asked playfully. Great. She already heard from Seth. They all did. I could see the smiles growing around me and I realized my worries were confirmed. D*mn that loudmouth!
Once they finally crowned the King and Queen, I didn’t want to wait to see them walk off. I know this would be rude, but if I didn’t leave now, I would shift right here, in the middle of the coronation. I tried to stand and felt my brother’s grip pull me down. “Hang on, brother. You can do this. We all know it can be hard to ignore their scent.”
I scoffed. “Hard?! I’m suffocating in roses at the moment.” I growled angrily.
He sighed and we watched the happy couple walk down the aisle, slower than I thought possible. Aren't they vampires?! At this point, I knew my eyes were bright red and I couldn’t hold on any longer. I growled heavily as the door closed behind them and I shot up from the pew as Seth finally let me free. Gramma and Gramps were at my side in seconds along with my parents, but at this point, I didn’t see them anymore. I was gone in a blur. My mate…their scent. I waited so long for the stupid coronation to end and now the scent…it’s gone!
I bolted through the castle and found nothing. I took a deep breath. It was like a game of Catch the Prey all over again. I smirked to myself as I stood half shifted in the hallway. Challenge accepted. “Mine! Where is she?!” Adir growled angrily.
“Adir?! Where did you go?!” Seth called.
Then I heard it. Pure laughter that sounded like the most sensual sound I have ever heard. “Adir! Tobias! Be careful!” My father called and I could tell it was his Lycan.
I didn’t listen. I didn’t care. She could be a vampire, fae, dragon, werewolf, human, I don’t care. I want her! I bolted outside and looked toward the gardens attached to the main hall where the coronation was held. That’s how the scent disappeared so fast.
“Tobias!” I heard again and this time it was definitely Seth coming after me.
I sniffed around the air again as the scent led me towards my sister, Sonya, and one other woman that was with them. “Mine! Mine!” Adir shouted as I ran up to them, stopping in front of the petite goddess. He was in full control and I did my best to hold him back.
She looked up at me in shock and her bright orange eyes looked over at my red ones. “Mate?” She whimpered as her cheeks blushed bright red.
“Mine.” I growled, moving closer to her hoping my sense of resolve dissipated the question I heard in her voice. I pulled my claws back and forced my eyes to change back to their blue ones. I want to see her through my eyes, not Adir’s.
She blinked and her orange eyes shifted back to soft green. She gasped and covered her subtly glossed lips. “T-Tobias?!”
I tilted my head a bit and stared at her soft features lightly highlighted under a thin layer of makeup with lusciously long and curly golden-brown hair. I froze when I noticed her features were too familiar. Her scent was too familiar. “Emmi?!” I called, finally getting control of my Lycan.
