I was more than surprised when it was Karina on my doorstep the next morning waiting to take me to school.
I raised my eyebrows at her, and she just shrugged. “He said he had some business to tend to before the Gala tonight, and he thought you’d appreciate riding with a familiar face.”
My heart twinged at the realization that I wouldn’t see Jax before the Art Gala tonight, and Karina must have seen the twinge of sadness on my face.
“Don’t worry, today is going to be so full of excitement for you, you’ll barely even notice he isn’t around,” she chuckled. I doubted that. Karina ducked to glance around behind me, curiously stepping her foot through the door frame and peering over my shoulder. “Is your mother home?”
