Chapter Ten New Friends Two weeks later Roger and Eve hosted their own little dinner party for Tom and Amy Lennox, which for Eve turned out to be every bit as memorable as the one at Professor Frederickson’s. The couple arrived a bit late having been delayed by traffic so the group immediately repaired to the dining room to eat the dinner Eve had prepared. Roger inquired politely about Tom’s academic studies. Eve had been under the impression that he was Dr. Frederickson’s pupil, but actually Tom’s specialty was modern, rather than ancient history. Some questions about Tom’s research led to a spirited discussion of current politics, to which Eve made an occasional contribution. Tom seemed anxious to impress the older man, an effect Roger often had on people, a tribute to his own charism
