Chapter Thirteen Betrayal Eve had been relieved that she had ended up seeing little of Claude during their weekend at Stowe. But he wasted no time in arranging with Roger for his photographic sessions with her. As with the painting, Roger informed her one evening at dinner of an appointment two days hence. Claude’s not calling her directly only increased her resentment of a situation she felt he had forced upon her, by his suggestion during the dinner at Stowe and by Roger’s adherence to the scheme. That Eve herself had unwittingly brought it about by boasting about her modeling did nothing to assuage her resentment, but rather increased it.
