The heavy glass doors of the VIP elevator slid shut just as Clara rounded the far corner of the hallway. She held her breath, her back pressed flat against the wall, listening to the muffled sound of Mr. Sterling’s deep, booming voice as he walked past her hiding spot toward Room 804. "Make sure the car is ready out front," Sterling was saying into his phone, his tone full of smooth arrogance. "I have a few private documents to sign in my suite, and then we leave for the airport." Clara waited until she heard his room door click shut. The second the hallway went dead silent, she moved. She held the thick manila folder tight against her chest, her emerald silk dress rustling softly as she hurried down the service staircase instead of waiting for another elevator.
