The truck stopped in a dark alley near Pier Nine. The rain had turned into a soft, freezing drizzle. Through the foggy window, Clara could see the giant gray warehouse. It sat right at the edge of the dark, splashing sea. Alexander tied Thomas to the passenger seat with another strong plastic strap so he could not run away. "Stay here," Alexander told him. Thomas only nodded, his face pale and defeated. Alexander turned to Clara. He reached over and checked the gun in her hand. He made sure the safety switch was off. "We cannot go through the front. Julian has two guards by the main gates. We are going to use the old coal chute on the side." They quietly climbed out of the truck, staying close to the brick walls.
