Ellie's POV
To try to stay ahead of Marshall, Amos's guards drove me and John to his cabin in Colorado. It was a long and tense drive as I fought my mate bond to not jump all over John. The smoldering looks John gave me weren't helping either.
We didn't say much on the drive. I learned after King Arlen left Fire Moon that he apparently had figured it out John and I were mates, though I begged the King to let me be the one to tell my father. John was still insistent on talking to Dad, man to man.
I didn't care about my mother's approval. Nothing I ever did would please her anyway. But I cared very much what my father's thoughts were and prayed to the Moon Goddess to open Daniel Gallagher's heart.
