Chapter 3 - Just got you

1118 Words
“I’m pregnant,” Diandra said. No buildup. No hesitation. Her voice didn’t waver, and she dared Reign to challenge her. Reign’s gaze didn’t waver either. His piercing glare stared, searching her for the slightest hesitation. It wasn’t possible… Was it? “It’s yours, Reign.” She snapped. Reign knew Diandra his whole life, but lately she’d become more ambitious. “This can’t happen,” his voice rose but low enough for only her to hear. His mind raced. He’d only just gotten Thea back. And now, now he wasn’t sure what would happen if she found out. But he didn’t have to wait, because inside, Thea had stirred. The window was cracked open, the night air drifting in, and with it, every word. She sat up, heart pounding, the sheets falling from her shoulders. She threw on anything she could find and rushed out, pushing past them both. “Don’t bother explaining. I’ve heard it all, and I know exactly what happens when you carry an Alpha’s baby without a Luna,” Thea said, voice sharp with betrayal. She turned to leave, but Reign caught her arm. “Please, Thea, don’t go, we can fix this.” He begged. Diandra stood watching their exchange. “Fix? You have more important things to deal with.” She said glaring between the two. She snatched her arm back before the tears begun and ran. Reign went to follow, but Diandra held him back, suggesting they do what Thea had allowed them to. Thea didn’t care that her feet were bare, that the cold and jagged gravel tore at her skin. Her breath came in sobs, her vision blurring, she made her way towards the entrance, unsure where she’d go once, she hit the carpark. As she ran under the pathway lit by lanterns, she collided with someone. Strong arms caught her before she hit the ground. “Thea?” Viktor’s voice was low, steady. She looked up, eyes wild with pain. “I need to get out of here,” she whispered, glancing over her shoulder, searching for Reign. Viktor didn’t ask questions, but he knew from the look she gave him, she meant, out of Velmira. He nodded once, pulled her close, and turned sharply. A subtle hand signal flicked through the air, silent, practiced. From the shadows, his men emerged, falling into step without a word. Together, they disappeared into the night. Thea didn’t look back. Only when the cold air stopped burning her lungs did Thea realise she was shaking. Not from the weather. From the speed of it all. One moment she had been lying in Reign’s arms, almost believing they could begin again, and the next she was running from the life she had chosen. “You don’t have to tell me right now,” Viktor said, voice calm but firm. “But eventually, preferably soon, I’ll need to know what war I’ve just started by taking Velmira’s Luna and Reign’s mate.” They were on a plane, the cabin dim and quiet. Thea stared out the window, watching clouds drift past, wondering where the hell she was going, but grateful for the escape. “I can’t be his Luna,” she said, voice low, broken. Viktor turned toward her, puzzled. “I don’t understand. Have you rejected him?” She shook her head. “No. But I should have.” Pain lingered in every word. “You don’t want to be? Did he hurt you?” he asked gentle but concerned. A cry escaped her, raw and sudden. “He’s gotten another wolf pregnant. I heard her tell him. You should have seen the stupid look on his face, like he wasn't sure.” Viktor’s expression twisted into something unreadable. His jaw clenched. “I’ve never liked that guy,” he muttered. “What do you want to do, what do you need?” he asked, voice soft now, stripped of judgment. Thea wiped at her eyes, tears falling faster than she could catch them. “Never go back. Never see him again. He chose to see her all those times he came back and didn’t tell me,” She cried. She meant what she said about never going back. But the rest was only a painful guess, a conclusion built from betrayal and heartbreak. Because how else could Diandra know she was pregnant, unless it had happened during one of the times Reign admitted he had returned and never told her? She paused, breath hitching. “I just wish, I had time to say goodbye to everyone. I truly love them all. I was ready to be their Luna, and it’s been taken from me, maybe it was what he’d wanted the whole time, a way to rid the human from his pack.” Viktor reached for her, took her hand in his. His grip was steady, grounding. “Get some rest,” he said. “We’ll be in Helwren in a few hours. We’ll figure out the rest later.” He rose to his feet, giving her space, letting her curl into the silence. Thea leaned her head against the window, eyes closing, heart aching. She didn’t know what waited in Helwren. But she knew what she’d left behind… Home and it broke her. The plane had landed while Thea slept. A soft voice stirred her, gentle, warm. A lovely hostess smiled as she leaned in. “We’ve arrived, miss.” Thea blinked awake, disoriented for a moment, then nodded, murmuring a thank you. Her body felt heavy, her heart heavier. Outside the plane, Viktor was waiting. He stood tall in his military uniform, she’d forgotten this gentle speaking man was also an alpha and military commander. Her breath caught at the site of him. He was different in every way compared to Reign, and it wasn’t a bad thing, in fact, it’s what made him attractive. She pressed her fingernails into her palms at the thought. The air hit her as she stepped down from the plane, warm, rich, like honey melting on her skin. A stark contrast to the icy bite of Velmira. She glanced around, trying to place the landscape. Palm trees swayed in the distance; the sky painted in soft golds and blues. Viktor excused his driver, signalling him to go back to the driver’s seat and then opened the door for her. She was about to smile politely when she remembered Reign saying it belonged to him. So instead, she nodded her head, too upset over the thought of him. What was waiting for her, and what would Reign do when he finds out she left? Those thoughts replayed over and over again during their ride.
