“I can’t take you to her, she is not here.” Lian’s arm crossed tightly over her chest. “And even if she was still in the house, I can’t allow you to see her.” Zhao Yun swallowed hard. “I don’t mean any harm. She is still my…” “Wife?” A slight smirk formed on her lip. “You call this marriage? Come on, don’t be ridiculous, Zhao Yun.” “I am back on my feet now, I can help.” Zhao Yun insisted, taking a step closer to Lian. Lian moved a step backward, her heart racing fast in panic. She was alone in the mansion and the recent development of Zhao Yun had created an atmosphere of fear in her. “You need to leave!” she snapped, stepping forward again and jabbing a finger into his chest. Despite her smaller stature, her fiery behavior made Zhao Yun take a half-step back. “You disappear for days without saying a word to anyone, show up days later, after spending the family’s money on your mistress, huh?” Zhao Yun faltered. How could he explain the truth to everyone? That the military’s secretive rehabilitation program demanded his appearance, or that he spent the money Mei gave him to cover the cost of his medical expenses because he wanted to leave the military grasp? Lian didn’t look like none of it mattered to her. “You are a bad influence on my daughter! She deserves better than someone who carries poverty like a second skin. Leave Zhao Yun, and don’t come back.” Lian added. For a moment, Zhao Yun stood frozen and didn’t know what to say but nodded, “But please tell her I want to see her.” “Don’t stay too long, you will get the divorce papers soon,” she muttered, slamming the door in his face. Zhao Yun turned away, his jaw clenched tight, he wished he could just figure out a way to help Mei so he could be valued in Lin's family, but he was helpless at that moment. Although his meridians had finally been unblocked, his martial arts cultivation had not returned to the level of a Grandmaster. He had to train further with the military for his cultivation to move to the next realm. That way, he could be the next War God again and would return to being powerful as usual. His martial art skills would protect Mei and the company. The national martial arts are divided into five major realms; the Warrior, Master, Grandmaster, Sect Master, and Great Grandmaster. Zhao Yun’s cultivation was stuck at the Warrior level, although still superior to every ordinary person in the city. Zhao Yun had a second thought about Lian’s words, ‘you have to leave!’ The words kept ringing in his head, but he couldn’t just leave without speaking with Mei. He sighed out of frustration and struggled to walk out of the room. Just as he stepped out of the room, he remembered Mei could be at the family grand estate. The grand estate of the Mei family loomed like a fortress under the evening sky. The great mansion, surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens, glowed with an air of old-world elegance. Zhao Yun approached the entrance cautiously, his senses at high alert. He wasn’t there to start a fight, instead he only wanted to see his wife. Maybe she could give him one extra day he had demanded. He wanted her to see him for who he truly was. Just as he got closer to the entrance door, he received a call from the secret military rehabilitation center. He quickly searched for a quiet corner so he could speak to them in private. He didn’t want anyone to hear about his discussions with them. “Hello Zhao Yun,” the doctor’s voice came in as soon as he picked up the call. “It’s getting late, we are still expecting you.” Zhao Yun was silent for a few seconds, he didn’t know what to say to him. He couldn’t just leave Mei, when he could faintly hear their voices from the grand living room. “You still owe us some amount of money, and we can’t allow you to leave without paying us for your medical treatment.” The doctor muttered, reminding him of his debt. “Yes, doctor. I will make the deposit now.” Zhao Yun replied and ended the call. “I have to make the deposit before coming back,” he murmured, his voice barely audible. He looked at the check Mei had thrown on him earlier and then finally made a U-turn and left for Buyo city bank. Inside the grand living room, the matriarch of the family, Mei’s grandmother, sat comfortably on a red master’s chair at the end of the grand living room, directly opposite the entrance door. Her sharp eyes, undimmed by age, searched around the room as the heated argument unfolded before her. Mei stood at a corner and her brother, Wei standing in the center. Mei's face was flushed with anger as her brother loomed over her, his voice rising with every word that came from his mouth. “Grandmother, you can’t watch him say all of this.” Mei muttered, her face growing darker with Wei’s words. Her grandmother, the matriarch, didn’t even flinch at her words, instead she only narrowed her eyes away from Mei. “You need to stop this nonsense and hand over the company!” Wei demanded, slamming a fist on the nearby table. Mei took a step forward, her voice calm but covered with defiance. “That’s not going to happen, Wei. I have worked hard to build this company myself, I can’t let you ruin it because of your greed.” “Just maybe you seemed to have forgotten the troubles I faced to make this company exist.” She added. One of Mei’s uncles stepped forward, his voice cutting through everyone like a blade. “Enough, Mei! You have no right to bully your brother like that.” “Then he should speak to me with respect!” Mei snapped, her face swelling. “Respect works both ways, Mei. You don’t listen to anyone but yourself,” Wei replied firmly, crossing his arms. Mei’s face turned red with frustration. “Listen? To what, Wei? Empty words? You have no idea how to run this company! You don’t even understand basic business strategies!” Wei’s jaw tightened, as his face twisted into a frown. “And you think yelling makes you more qualified? Just because you have been in the company longer doesn’t mean you know everything!” “I have made my decision and that’s final!” Mei snapped. “I get to decide what’s final here,” the family matriarch interrupted, her voice cutting through her.
