My heart stopped.
For a second, only I existed, and the realization that Aiden had publicly chosen me.
Again and Again. When it counted, when it was stupid to count.
When everything else was supposed to count.
Suddenly, I felt my heart melting. A warm feeling spread across my chest and I stumbled as if pulled back by the weight of it all.
I expected everything but this.
Maybe because it was easier to be rejected than constantly accepted. It was easier to lose than to maintain winning.
But he made it look so easy today. And for once, I was glad to be wrong.
Aiden was done though. He took my hands into his, even as the press went into uproar.
I watched the suit-clad man slam his file to the ground, storming away.
