I stand with my hand at my collar and listen to the outer door close.

I'm in the hallway, maybe six seconds after him. It's empty in both directions. The numbers above the elevator are already going down.
I reach for the mind-link.

It goes out and stops.
He's shutting me out.
I go back inside. Knowing Adrian, chasing him won't get me anything.
I dry my hair, then go to the packhouse for dinner because staying here on my own is worse.
The great hall is full when I walk in. I take my seat at the high table.
The chair beside me is empty. Across from mine, Roan's is empty too.
