Baobaku!

Episode five

It was around 4:00 pm in the evening when Bashorun Adewale took his cutlass and hide it under his cloth and went out of his house. On his way to Baoobaku’s house, all those who he come across with on the way greeted him because they fear him. as he was going. On his way also, he met a dangerous thing that nearly neutralize all his charms, he saw an old chain on the ground, as he was about to pick it, suddenly, a voice from no where in particular called out to him saying “Adewale , don’t touch that chain, for any who pick this chain, all his power would be neutralized and he will be left with none!, it may be old but it is dangerous be careful” . Adewale quickly leave the spot he continues his journey to Baobaku’s house. He prayed silently in himself that he should find Baobaku at home. As he was going his horse stopped, it seems it was tired due to the way Bashorun Adewale have been riding it for the past days. Bashorun made some incantation on the horse and it started walking again, galloping and seems re energized. To be candid with you, Bashorun Adewale is indeed a powerful man! When he got to his destination, i.e. Baobaku’s house, he ties his horse to a pole before going inside the house, he met baobaku ‘s son playing with a stick, he picked the boy and threw him outside through the window. The little three years old boy cried and cried outside with his head bruised. Bashorun Adewale shouted “Baobaku, come out, you this bastard of a thing, I am here to see you, come out right now and answer me because I don’t want to loose my temper, you this old fool”.

  Baobaku who was inside dressing up for a program he was called to, replied from his inner room, “Who is that b***h that does not have good wooden door who is that and it will never be well with such person for trying such on my door” Baobaku said as he dash out of his room. Bashorun, who was furious before coming here, blasted him “thank you very much, so this is how you want to repay me upon all the things that I have done for you? You,Baobaku, of all people can do all these to me? I want to tell you these, you will see my wrath, I said it again, you will see my wrath. I swear by ogun you will dearly pay for this…….” Baobaku cuts in, “ehn ehn, you don’t know me, I Baobaku, the son of the lion that pierce the heart of mankind. I’m used to eating the flesh of human beings or do you think because of the help you rendered me in the past you can use your power on me? Or because you were once a friend to me? Don’t worry you will soon know my new worth in few days time, it is the people that fear you, I Baobaku will never fear you a bit and I will make sure you suffer a lot in this kingdom. You this idiotic Bashorun of a thing! If you are ready to leave my abode, please kindly close my door and get out of here!”. Bashorun Adewale was startled to hear baobaku speak like tjis in this kind of manner, he never knew the former was ready to end his life, he summon up courage to talk back, “you don’t know who you are dealing with, if you do, you won’t open that your dirty stinking mouth to tlk to me in that manner. Baobaku, you will smell pepper! I swear by Ogun, you will surely know me today by the special grace of our gods” he brings out a cutlass and bit it, he then added before leaving, “if you, Baobaku did not die tomorrow, ogun you are my witness, I should fall sick for ten days!”. 

 Baobaku laughed and laughed until he could no more. He looked at Adewale’s face like a clown who is ready on stage. Baobaku looked at him with a wary face , “ I, Baiobaku, is not ready to die and can never dies, I am going to live for a thousand years! Go for the blast Dewale!”. Adewale dropped the cutlass and went back home. As soon as he got inside he called two of his slaves and told him to get him some different type of leaves. He collected everything from them and moves straight to his backyard. Thus, Adewale starts the cooking of Baobaku to death!

The fire is burning heavily at the backyard of Bashorun Adewale’s house. He Bashorun made some incantations into the pot and place it on fire, then he calls out on Baobaku saying, “ oya, you Baobaku, get ready to die now!”. The next thing that happened was that Baobaku coughed to death. He was sleeping when he suddenly woke up with a loud cough that can wake up the whole village! He was taken outside but too late. He is gone! Bashorun Adewale was summoned to his house since people know them to be best of friends. As he got there seeing his friend’s corpse, he soliloquized boastfully, 

  “won ki nba eni to ba ni agbaraju yan lo ja

  Sugbon owa toriwipe oni agbara die o fe dann mi wo

  Iro patata ah ah ah”

Which means “you don’t fight the one who is more powerful than you

  But, for you having a little bit of power you want to try me

  It’s a big lie!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

He looked around and said to the people, “ Baobaku has end his own life here, let everyone go back to his or her house, he will be buried now!”. A fat man among the people shouted,”Bashorun you are wicked! How can you say such a thing? Won’t he be given any befitting rites? Who knows if you ain’t the one that killed him”. Adewale was startled to hear the man say such words at him, he felt guilty inside him. He looked at his guards and they quickly grabbed the fat man, giving him the best of beatings he had never received since he was born. He was later left with a broken leg. All the people that gathered at Baobaku’s house were surprised and they took to their heels, who knows who will be the next scape goat. 

 The next day, being a bright one, Bashorun Adewale sat in his big chamber chilling with a calabash filled with palm wine in his hands. As he was busy trying to get something off his brain, six chiefs from the palace appeared to his house. They came in and after exchange of pleasantries, they sat down to have a talk. Adewale called his servant to serve them kolanut, which they bluntly refuse to eat. One of them voiced out, “Bashorun, we are not happy with all these behaviours of yours”. “what!!! What did I do?”. Bashorun rose to his feet. The second chief being the Otun, replied him, “THE WHOLE KINGDOM is against your unruly behaviour”. “What is it that they are talking about? What are the people saying about me? Am I the most wicked person on earth?”. The other chief replied, “ calm down Mr. man! Adewale, don’t deface this kingdom of ours, don’t behave as if there’s no one like you on earth………….” Adewale cut in “Yes there’s no one like me on this earth that we are in o”. “ Will you keep quiet and shut that dirty stinking mouth of yours! And stop talking as if you are the most powerful man on earth!”. The fourth chief too added his own part. Adewale, now in a furious mode looked at them pointing his finger at them, “ yes I am the most powerful man on this planet!, any of you who dare cross my path will surely have himself to be blame, you this dirty old hags. I tell you whenever you want to come here again, you will be sliced into pieces!’. The fifth chief, who have been on a silent mode jumped in, “ ehn ehn, what is your problem?you are just bluffing, you are not the first Bashorun in this kingdom and you won’t be the last one. So why the brags? We will make sure you leave this post of yours, you are not deemed to be here at all. Apart from that, we will make sure you are thrown into the evil forest at g***a!”. Adewale laughed and laughed until he couldn’t anymore., “ you must be joking, you don’t know who I am, I’m your lord who you all must bow to. None of you can remove me from this post that I am, do you think I forgot all the terrible things you did to me. You sent ajayi to appear to me in my dream, later you went to Olayi to kill me yet, I didn’t take any action against you. You all will surely pay for this! Especially you, osi, alakunje, you that do come to my house every morning to collect a bowl of maize from me, and you asipa, that I do give ram every year for you family’s ultimate celebration.” . “ All those ones are stories, Adewale, they are stories that touches the souls of a poor man!” the asipa replied. “ I am telling all of you I am a snake and no one dares touch my tail, if you guys push me to the wall you will regret it…” the chiefs cut him in “regret what?”. He continued, “if you guys play any foul play against me, I promise you, you will meet your heads at home!”. “ We take that as a bet!” they all chorused at the same time. 

Though, it’s obviously written on their faces that they are somewhat afraid of Bashorun because they know that he always carry out whatever he says. They didn’t know what else to do, they file out of the chamber and one of them made a whistle after they had walk some miles away from bashorun’s house mounted on their various horses already. Immediately two Eso’s ( Palace guard) , came from no where in particular angle and bashed into the big chamber where Adewale was. The first one was with a gun and the other one was with a cutlass, the one with the gun c****d it and aimed at Bashorun’s head, but to his ultimate surprise, the gun turned to a broom. The second one tried to split the Bashorun into two with his cutlass, as he did, the Bashorun was seen being cut into two and he was in halves laughing terribly! It was a suprising thing, he came back as a whole i.e. he return back to a normal human being state! The palace guards tried to run away but they couldn’t as their leg was stick to the ground.  

The Bashorun looked at the both of them, “ You these rats now come here with brooms to kill me, you dare me, ADEWALE you are not even afraid of me! Don’t you listen to an adage which says, “ Taan baa ran ni ni ise eru an fi to mo je ni, which means, if you are sent as a servant to kill me, you ain’t suppose to behave as a servant…… who are you suppose to fear? I or they? But you these he goats are not even afraid a bit, you now come here with your brooms to scare me. Those that sent you, didn’t they inform you about me? They know me very well that I am a no nonsense man, I don’t take s**t from anybody. They are so stupid to send this rat of a thing to me. Upon all what we argued out here some minutes ago, they still have the guts to make signals to you two fools. I suppose to have behead all of them even before you two showed up, if not for my gods that told me to have patience. I have seen all these since morning through my magic box. I am going to make you a scape goat today. You have stepped the cobra’s tail, it remain the forefather of the person that will rescue you from my wrath!” Bashorun said boastfully and his servants all came out bowing down “LONG LIVE THE GREAT BASHORUN”
