My hands shook as I paced the length of my chambers, the Elders' words echoing in my mind like a nightmare that wouldn't end. The luxurious room that had once felt like a symbol of my victory now seemed more like a gilded cage. Magic? A witch Luna? The very thought made my stomach turn.
*Stop pacing,* Gem growled inside me. *You're making us both dizzy.*
I caught my reflection in the full-length mirror and barely recognized myself. My face was pale, dark circles under my eyes betraying my lack of sleep. My usually perfect hair hung loose and messy from running my fingers through it too many times.
"This isn't possible," I whispered to my reflection. "Pure bloods can't do magic. We've never been able to do magic. Everyone knows that!"
