WHISPERS OF THE HEART

Episode 10: The forest was unnaturally quiet after the storm of light. Every shadow seemed to recoil, every leaf stilled as though the world itself feared to disturb what had just been unleashed. Elias guided Luna through the trees until they reached a hollow cave tucked beneath a ridge of stone. Only then did he finally allow himself to breathe. “Sit,” he ordered gently, lowering her onto a smooth rock. “You’re pale. You pushed yourself too far.” Luna wanted to argue, but her body betrayed her. Every limb ached, her head spun, and her hands still glowed faintly with the last traces of silver light. She pressed them to her chest, trembling. “What happened to me, Elias?” Her voice cracked. “I didn’t call for it. It just… burst out. What if I hurt someone next time?” Elias knelt in front of her, his hands steady as they rested on hers. “You didn’t hurt me. You saved us.” Her eyes filled with tears again, but she bit her lip hard to hold them back. “Kaelen said blood moon children destroy everything. What if that’s true?” He leaned closer, his gaze fierce. “Then I’ll fight fate itself before I let it touch you.” The intensity of his words stole her breath. For a moment, she forgot the fear, the shrine, the Watchers, everything but the warmth in his eyes. The bond between them, unspoken until now, hummed like a tether pulled taut. Luna swallowed hard. “Elias… why do you stay? You’ve seen what I am. You know the empire will hunt me. You’ve risked everything just by being here.” His lips curved into a soft, almost sorrowful smile. “Because when I look at you, I don’t see a curse. I see Luna, the girl who laughed at me when I tripped over my own sword, the girl who refuses to give up even when the world falls apart. I see someone worth protecting. Worth… everything.” Her heart thudded painfully against her ribs. She should have looked away, but she couldn’t. His closeness wrapped around her like a shield, both terrifying and safe all at once. For a heartbeat, silence filled the cave, thick, fragile, alive. Then Elias reached out, brushing his fingers against her cheek. Luna trembled beneath his touch, torn between fear of her power and the warmth blooming inside her chest. “Elias…” she whispered, her voice breaking. But he didn’t move closer. He didn’t steal the moment. He just smiled, tender and unshaken, and whispered back: “When the world calls you cursed, I’ll be the one who calls you mine.” Her tears slipped free then, not of sorrow, but something she hadn’t felt in what seemed like forever. Hope. And for the first time since the blood moon rose, Luna dared to believe she wasn’t alone
