WHISPERS IN THE EMPIRE

482 Words
Episode 11: Far from the forest, beneath the gilded towers of the capital, the empire stirred. In the great hall, torches flickered against walls carved with victories of kings long dead. Courtiers whispered in hushed tones, their silken robes rustling like restless wings. At the throne’s base, a messenger knelt, his body trembling as he delivered his report. “My lord… the Watchers have fallen.” A cold hush fell over the hall. Atop the throne, Emperor Kael leaned forward. His golden crown gleamed, but his eyes sharp, merciless burned brighter. “Fallen?” he repeated, his voice calm but edged with steel. The messenger pressed his forehead to the marble floor. “All six sent to the eastern forest… destroyed. Witnesses speak of a storm of silver light. They say… they say the blood moon’s child has awakened.” Gasps rippled through the court. Some clutched their amulets; others muttered prayers. Fear and fascination tangled in every breath. The emperor’s lips curved into a thin smile. “So the curse breathes again.” At his side, General Seraphina stepped forward. Her armor gleamed black, her expression unreadable. “Your Majesty, if this report is true, the child must not be left to roam free. The people will panic. Old prophecies will resurface. Rebellion could spark.” “And yet,” the emperor mused, rising to his feet, “a weapon such as this could also crush any rebellion before it begins.” The court erupted with voices ,warnings, protests, pleas. The emperor silenced them with a single raised hand. “Find the girl,” he ordered. “Alive. Bring her to me. She will serve the empire or she will die.” The words rang like a death sentence. Back in the forest, Luna stirred from uneasy sleep. Dreams had plagued her, visions of fire, chains, and a throne bathed in blood. She woke with her heart pounding, a sharp ache in her chest she couldn’t explain. Elias sat nearby, sharpening his blade. At the sound of her gasp, he was at her side instantly. “Another dream?” She nodded, clutching her knees. “It felt… real. Like the empire already knows I exist.” Elias frowned, his jaw tight. “Then we have less time than I thought.” Luna stared at the cave’s mouth, at the faint sliver of dawn painting the sky. Fear churned in her stomach, but beneath it was something sharper, determination. “They won’t take me,” she whispered. “Not without a fight.” Elias looked at her, pride and sorrow warring in his eyes. He reached for her hand. “Then we fight together.” And as the first light of morning touched her face, Luna realized there was no turning back. Her tears, her curse, her gift, whatever they were, they would decide the empire’s fate. And the empire was already coming for her
