JOURNEY INTO THE UNKNOWN

Episode 7: The mist parted as Luna and Elias pressed deeper into the forest, Kaelen’s warning echoing in both their minds. Neither spoke for a long while. The silence between them was heavy, not from mistrust, but from the weight of unspoken fears. Finally, Elias broke the quiet. “Shrines,” he muttered. “How many shrines do you think exist? And why do I have the feeling none of them are going to welcome us with open arms?” Luna’s lips curved into a faint, tired smile. “Maybe because nothing about my life has been easy since the moon turned red.” He chuckled softly, though the sound carried no joy. “You’re right. But we’ll manage. We always do.” As night bled into dawn, the forest began to change. The twisted branches gave way to towering trees that glittered faintly with silver sap, glowing under the pale morning light. Strange flowers bloomed at their roots, petals shaped like stars, releasing a faint hum, like a song just beyond hearing. Luna slowed her pace, transfixed. “It’s beautiful…” Elias touched her arm gently. “Beautiful, yes. But dangerous too. Look closer.” Her gaze sharpened, and then she saw it. Beneath the flowers, the earth was littered with bones. Human bones. A chill ran through her. “What kind of place is this?” “The kind Kaelen warned us about,” Elias said grimly. “This land was shaped by old magic. And old magic always demands a price.” They pressed on, following a faint trail winding deeper into the glowing woods. As they walked, Luna couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. Shadows flitted at the edge of her vision, never clear, never near enough to confront. Her pulse quickened. By the time the sun reached its peak, they arrived at a clearing. At its center stood a broken stone altar, half-swallowed by moss and vines. Carvings of the moon marked its sides, though most were weathered beyond recognition. “The first shrine,” Elias murmured. Luna approached slowly, her heart thundering. As her fingers brushed the cold stone, a surge of energy raced up her arm. Her vision blurred, silver light engulfed her, pulling her into a world that wasn’t the forest anymore. She stood on a field of stars, the moon looming impossibly close above her. A voice whispered from everywhere and nowhere: “Child of sorrow, seeker of truth. One step taken, countless yet remain.” Luna gasped. “What do you want from me?” The voice deepened, almost mournful. “Not what we want. What you must decide. Power will tear or mend. Blood will drown or heal. Your tears will shape all fates.” Before she could answer, the stars fractured, the light shattered, and she was back at the altar, collapsing into Elias’s arms. “Luna!” His voice was sharp with worry. “What happened?” Tears streamed down her cheeks without her meaning to cry. She clutched his sleeve, trembling. “The shrine… it spoke to me. It knows who I am.” Elias held her tighter, his jaw clenched. “Then we’re in deeper trouble than I thought.” But deep inside, Luna couldn’t deny it,something in the shrine’s words had awakened a fire she didn’t know she carried.
