THE OMEN OF THE SHRINE

565 Words
Episode 5 Morning came shrouded in mist. The forest outside the shrine was still, wrapped in pale fog that clung to the branches like ghostly fingers. Luna stepped outside, her body still trembling from the dream. The chill of dawn bit at her skin, but it was nothing compared to the cold certainty in her chest: the whispers were not just dreams. They were warnings. She gazed back at the shrine, its walls cracked and worn. How many centuries had it stood here, forgotten? How many children of the moon had it seen before her? The thought sent a shiver down her spine. Elias appeared at her side, rubbing sleep from his eyes. “You didn’t rest, did you?” Luna shook her head. “I couldn’t. The dream… it felt too real.” He frowned. “Tell me.” She hesitated, then recounted what she’d seen, the figures cloaked in silver, the choice between fire and water, the voice that thundered her fate. Her throat tightened as she repeated the words: The empire will bleed by your tears. Elias was silent for a long moment. Finally, he said, “Maybe it wasn’t a curse. Maybe it was a warning. Or even a guide.” “A guide to what? Destruction?” Her voice cracked. “Elias, I don’t want to bring ruin. I just want to live.” His hand brushed hers, steadying. “Then we’ll find another way. If fate says your tears can destroy, then maybe they can also heal.” His faith was a fragile thread, but Luna clung to it. Before she could reply, a sound echoed through the mist, the snap of a twig, deliberate, close. Elias stiffened, instinctively pulling Luna behind him. From the fog emerged a figure, cloaked in tattered robes. Not a Watcher, but human, with weary eyes that glowed faintly in the pale light. He carried a staff etched with symbols that pulsed faintly silver. Luna’s heart pounded. “Who are you?” The man’s gaze lingered on her, heavy with recognition. “The child of the blood moon,” he murmured, as though speaking to himself. Then louder: “I am Kaelen, keeper of the old shrines. And you… you are the one they warned us of.” Elias stepped forward defensively. “If you’re with the Watchers, stay back.” Kaelen raised a hand. “I am not with them. I have hidden from their kind for many years. I came because the shrine called me. It has not awakened in centuries, until last night.” His eyes locked on Luna’s trembling hands. “It woke you up.” Luna’s breath caught. The dream, the light, the whispers,it was all connected. “What do you want from me?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Kaelen’s expression was grave. “The empire is on the edge of war. The Watchers hunt you because they fear what you might become. The question is not what I want from you, child,it is whether you will face what you are… or run from it.” The mist thickened around them, the forest eerily silent. Luna’s pulse thundered in her ears. For the first time, she realized her tears were not just hers to bear, they might decide the fate of everyone. And as Kaelen’s words hung in the air, she wondered if she had the strength to choose.
