Episode 18
The halls of the Moonlit Kingdom had never felt so heavy. Luna walked them quietly, her footsteps echoing like distant bells in the night. Every passing guard bowed his head, every servant averted their gaze. Respect, yes,but also fear. The whispers of prophecy clung to her like shadows, and she knew the weight of expectation was growing heavier with each day.
Still, she carried herself with dignity. A daughter of the Moon was never meant to bend under the eyes of the world.
Kael found her in the garden court, standing beneath the pale glow of the moonflowers. Their petals unfurled only at night, filling the air with a fragrance as fragile as it was fleeting. “You come here when you wish to escape,” he said, his voice warm and low.
Luna did not turn to him. “I come here to remember who I am when the world forgets.”
He stepped closer, his hand brushing hers lightly, a silent promise. “And who is that, Luna?”
Her lips trembled before she answered. “A woman who fears her love will destroy everything she touches. A daughter cursed by fate. And yet…” She looked up, meeting his gaze at last. “Still a woman who longs for more than the cage of prophecy.”
Kael’s hand fully enclosed hers now, steady and strong. “Then we’ll shape that longing into strength. You are not bound to fate alone. You are bound to choose me and me.”
The words struck her deeper than she expected. She had heard vows of loyalty before, but this one… this one wove itself into her heart like threads of light piercing through the dark. She closed her eyes, letting the warmth of his presence banish the chill of doubt that lingered.
Around them, the moonflowers seemed to bloom wider, glowing faintly as though responding to her release of fear. It was said the flowers could sense the truth and purity of emotion, and tonight they bathed the garden in silver light.
Luna exhaled softly. “If love is my curse, then let it also be my salvation.”
Kael leaned his forehead to hers, their breath mingling. “Then let us vow it here no matter what shadows rise, no matter what battles come, we will face them together. No fear, no retreat.”
She felt the bond settle between them like an unspoken oath. Not the desperate grasp of two doomed lovers, but the steady union of two souls choosing each other against the odds.
When at last she opened her eyes, the garden no longer seemed suffocating. It was alive, filled with fragrance and light, a sanctuary carved out of the chaos of prophecy.
They stood together in silence, and in that silence was peace. For one night, at least, the weight of destiny loosened its grip, and Luna was simply herself loved, seen, and unbroken.
