As I stared at the scene in front of me, I felt almost no emotion. All my men were dragging bodies into a pile. I pulled a smoke out of my pocket and lifted my bloody hand to my mouth to light it. Deadleg was over on the dock with Rinaldi’s boy. I hadn’t been over there yet, but I could see Deadleg talking to the kid. I say kid— he was eighteen. In reality, he was the same age as the girl I wanted. Kinda f****d up, really. Peter was on the phone, making arrangements with my guys I paid off at the shipyard on a regular basis.
