We were sitting in my office, Evelyn perched on my lap— I normally wouldn’t have allowed her to be around for conversations like these, but after today, having her away from me at all made me uneasy as f**k. Even if she was just in the other room— it sent my blood pressure through the roof.
I’d expected news when my cousin barged unannounced into my office where I was speaking with Deadleg, Peter, and Oliver— one of the guards with Evelyn today— but I hadn’t expected the words he just spat out. It took me a few minutes to process what he’d said as Evelyn looked between the two of us with concern in her golden eyes.
