The outdoor patio was empty due to the weather— it was nippy and overcast this evening. I leaned against the railing, lighting a smoke and pulling on it as I stared at the street on the back side of the steakhouse. This side wasn’t busy— a few passing cars, flickering street lights and the usual hum of electricity from the city. I contemplated what I was doing. Going out of my way to seek out the girl wasn’t like me. I had never been one for the chase. It wasn’t something I enjoyed. But then, I’d never wanted a woman for anything more than my physical needs in my life. I’d set that rule for myself a long time ago— love was mess
