I heard William yelling before I even got back inside of my office. He was spitting venom at me, slurs and insults, sweat pouring off of his forehead. I could practically smell the gin coming out of his pores. His harsh voice compared to Evelyn’s soft one—- it made me once again curious as to what her mother was like. “What did she say?” He barked. “I told you— she f*****g gave it to me!” I made eye contact with Peter, who met my eyes with a knowing gaze.
