The Reaping Begins

3147 Words

Friday went by in a blur, Hope and Everly were so focused on avoiding Mark and his bad mood that they were exhausted by the time they made their way back to the manor that evening. Mark was still oblivious as to who had chosen Everly over him and his temper was showing that week. Hope cringed at the thought of starting the events for the reaping, knowing they would only make Mark worse at work. The only silver lining was knowing that soon, both she and Everly would be free of that job and thus free of Mark. Hope walked into the kitchen and sat on a stool next to Sarah. She glanced down at her sister. "Did you finish your homework?" Hope asked, shuffling through the papers that Sarah was working on, checking the work, and setting them back in a nice pile before looking down at her sister.
