Chapter 37: Be with him

1475 Words

Liam and I walked through campus, his hand brushing against mine, warm and steady. He was talking about something trivial—a club meeting, a group project—but I struggled to focus. Because everywhere I looked, there was Aiden. Or at least, the memory of him. I knew where he would be. Laughing with Deinty, his hand casually resting on her back, her head tilted toward him like she owned every second of his attention. It wasn’t even subtle anymore; they were a public display, effortless and intimate, a stark reminder that he had moved on completely. I tried to focus on Liam, tried to anchor myself in the comfort of him. He deserved that. He had been patient, steady, loving. And I… I had chosen him. But every brush of his fingers against mine made my chest tighten in ways I hadn’t expected.
