Chapter 8

926 Words
Dominic walked out of the laundry room like nothing had happened. Aria stayed behind for a full minute, trying to slow her breathing. She could still feel the pressure of his hand between her legs. She could still hear the rough way he had said “Tonight.” When she finally stepped into the hallway her mother was coming down the stairs with the laptop charger in hand, smiling. “Found it,” she said. “Dominic’s so good at locating the things I lose.” Aria managed a small smile and escaped to her room before her face gave anything away. The rest of the afternoon stretched like a wire pulled too tight. They moved around the house in careful orbits. Her mother worked at the kitchen table. Dominic took a long work call in the study with the door half open. Aria sat on the living room couch pretending to scroll on her phone, hyper-aware of every sound. Every time he passed through the room their eyes met for a fraction too long. Once, while her mother was distracted by an email, his hand brushed the small of Aria’s back as he walked by. The touch lasted less than a second. It burned for minutes. Dinner was worse. They sat at the table together. Her mother asked normal questions about Aria’s plans for the rest of the summer. Dominic answered when spoken to. Under the table his foot pressed firmly against Aria’s bare ankle and stayed there. She kept her expression calm while heat pooled low in her stomach. After dinner her mother declared she was taking a bath and turning in early for another video call with her overseas team. The moment the bathroom door closed upstairs, Dominic caught Aria’s eye from across the kitchen and tilted his head toward the hallway. She followed him to his bedroom this time. He locked the door the second it shut behind them. Then he had her against it, mouth on hers, hands already under her sweater. The kiss was deeper than the ones before, hungrier, edged with something that felt almost like desperation. “I’ve been hard since the laundry room,” he muttered against her neck. “Walking around this house smelling you on my fingers.” Aria made a soft sound and pushed his shirt up. He yanked it off, then pulled her sweater over her head. They undressed each other in quick, urgent movements until there was nothing left between them. He walked her backward to the bed and laid her down, covering her body with his. This time he didn’t rush. He kissed his way down her throat, over her breasts, lingering on each n****e until she was arching under him. When he settled between her thighs and put his mouth on her she had to grab a pillow and press it over her own face to stay quiet. He licked her slow and thorough, two fingers sliding inside, curling exactly where she needed. He didn’t stop until she came shaking against his tongue, thighs clamped around his head. Only then did he rise up, wipe his mouth with the back of his hand, and push inside her in one deep thrust. Aria gasped into the pillow. Dominic braced himself over her, eyes locked on hers, and started to move in long, controlled strokes. The bed made almost no sound. The only noise was their quiet breathing and the soft wet slide of him inside her. “Look at me,” he said. She did. “This is more than s*x now.” His voice was low, almost strained. “You know that, right?” She nodded, unable to form words. He thrust deeper, slower. “Say it.” “It’s more,” she whispered. “Good girl.” He kissed her hard, then dropped his forehead against hers. “I don’t know how to stop wanting you. Even with her right down the hall.” The confession cracked something open in her chest. She wrapped her legs higher around him and pulled him closer. He groaned quietly and picked up the pace, still careful, still deep. One hand slid under her hips to angle her better. The other covered her mouth when she started to make too much noise. She came again with his hand over her lips, eyes watering from the force of it. He followed moments later, burying himself to the hilt and pulsing inside her with a low, broken sound he couldn’t fully contain. They stayed locked together afterward, breathing hard. Dominic’s face was buried in her neck. His hand stroked slow paths up and down her side like he couldn’t make himself let go. Eventually he lifted his head. His expression was raw. “I meant what I said,” he murmured. “This is more.” Before Aria could answer, the sound of the bathroom door opening upstairs reached them clearly. Both of them went still. Her mother’s footsteps moved down the hallway. Soft. Getting closer. Dominic pulled out of her carefully and sat up, listening. Aria scrambled for her clothes. The footsteps stopped right outside the bedroom door. A soft knock. “Dominic? Are you awake? I can’t find my reading glasses. I thought maybe they were in here.” Aria froze, half-dressed, heart slamming so hard she felt sick. Dominic looked at her for one charged second, then called out in a voice that sounded almost normal. “One second.” He stood, pulled o n his pants, and walked to the door.
