Chapter 9

Dominic opened the bedroom door only wide enough to block the view inside. Aria stayed frozen on the far side of the bed, sweater clutched to her chest, heart slamming so hard she felt dizzy. She could still feel him between her legs. The sheets were a mess. The air still smelled like s*x. “Glasses?” Dominic’s voice sounded almost normal. “I think I saw them on the bathroom counter earlier.” Her mother’s soft laugh floated in. “Of course. I looked everywhere except the obvious place. Sorry for bothering you.” “No bother.” The door clicked shut. Footsteps moved away. Only when the master bedroom door closed again did Aria let out a shaky breath. Dominic turned to her. His expression was tight, eyes still dark with leftover heat and fresh adrenaline. “That was too close,” he said quietly. “I know.” He crossed the room, cupped her face, and kissed her once, hard and brief. “Get dressed. Go to your room. We’ll talk tomorrow.” She nodded, pulled her clothes on with trembling hands, and slipped into the dark hallway. Every step felt loud. She made it to her own bed, locked the door, and lay there staring at the ceiling, still pulsing with the memory of him inside her and the terror of almost being caught. Morning brought no relief. Her mother was already downstairs, brighter than the day before, making breakfast and talking about how good it felt to finally sleep in her own bed. Dominic stood at the counter in a fresh shirt, pouring coffee. When Aria walked in he looked at her over the rim of his mug. The look lasted a second too long. Her mother noticed. “You two are quiet this morning,” she said lightly, setting plates on the table. “Everything okay?” “Fine,” Dominic answered. “Just a late night working.” Aria sat down and kept her eyes on her food. Under the table Dominic’s knee pressed firmly against hers and stayed there for the entire meal. She barely tasted anything. The day moved in a haze of careful distance and stolen glances. Her mother worked from the living room. Dominic took calls. Aria tried to read and failed. Every time their eyes met the air felt thicker. Late afternoon her mother announced she needed to run to the store for a few things and would be gone about an hour. The second the front door closed, Dominic appeared in the doorway of Aria’s room. He didn’t speak. He just walked in, shut the door, and locked it. Then he had her against the wall, mouth on hers, hands already under her shirt. The kiss was deeper than the ones before, almost rough with need. He pulled her shirt off, then his own. When he dropped to his knees and dragged her shorts and panties down she had to bite her lip to stay quiet. He put his mouth on her like he was starving, licking slow and thorough until her thighs shook and she came against his tongue with a muffled cry. He stood, spun her around, and bent her over the edge of her own bed. She heard his zipper. Then he pushed inside her in one long, deep thrust that forced a soft broken sound from her throat. “Quiet,” he murmured against her ear, even as he started to move. “We don’t know when she’ll be back.” He f****d her in steady, powerful strokes, one hand wrapped around her hip, the other reaching around to rub her c**t. The bed frame creaked softly. Aria pressed her face into the mattress and took every thrust, already climbing again. “You feel that?” he asked, voice low and rough. “How perfect you take me? Like this p***y was made for your stepdad’s cock.” The filthy words mixed with the stretch of him pushed her over the edge. She came hard, shaking, muffling the sound in the sheets. Dominic followed a few strokes later, burying himself deep and pulsing inside her with a quiet, guttural groan. They stayed locked together afterward, breathing hard. He pressed a kiss to the back of her shoulder, softer than anything that had come before. “I meant what I said last night,” he murmured against her skin. “This is more than s*x. I don’t know how to go back.” Aria turned her head enough to look at him. “I don’t want to go back.” Something raw moved through his expression. He started to speak again— The sound of the garage door opening cut him off. Both of them froze. Her mother’s car. Dominic pulled out of her quickly. They scrambled for clothes. Aria yanked her shorts up. He zipped his pants and shoved his shirt back on. The front door opened downstairs just as he slipped out of her room and into the hallway, looking as composed as he could manage. Aria sat on the edge of her bed, still full of him, heart racing, and listened to her mother’s cheerful voice calling out that she was home. The secret felt heavier than ever. And neither of them wanted it to end.
